The Socialist Party USA will hold its National Organizing Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina, this summer, where members will participate in activist engagement and other party-building activities.
The event is scheduled for July 25 and 26 at the Hyatt Place Greensboro and will be hosted by the Central and Western North Carolina Socialist Party. According to the party, the conference will be held in person, with a virtual option available for members unable to attend. Registration is required, and the party is charging a fee.
While a full schedule has not yet been released, the party is currently accepting workshop proposals. A submission form produced by the party asks individuals interested in leading a workshop to disclose whether they are members of the Socialist Party USA and requires them to be willing to present the session themselves or otherwise coordinate speakers. The party is asking that workshops run no longer than 90 minutes.
The National Organizing Conference is separate from the Socialist Party USA’s national convention. Under the party’s Constitution, national conventions are held in odd-numbered years and serve as its formal business meetings, where members elect the national committee, consider changes to the platform and governing documents, and take up other items of official party business.
By contrast, its national organizing conferences are typically held in alternating years and have focused more on educational initiatives and activist training than formal party business.
Details in the August 2024 issue of The Organizer, a publication produced by the party, reported that the previous conference took place virtually that July and included topics ranging from electoral strategy to socialist feminism. Other sessions were tied to the party’s End the Prison Industrial Complex and Socialize the Rail Industry campaigns.
The party has not yet said when conference registration or workshop proposal submissions will close.
