(SAN ANTONIO) Roger V. Gary, a candidate for the 2012 Libertarian nomination for President, welcomed Rick Perry into the Republican field.
“Mr. Perry has proven to be all hat and no cattle when it comes to standing up to Washington,” Gary said. “The latest evidence is his refusal to add the bill opposing TSA groping to the recent Texas Legislature special session’s agenda until voter outrage forced him to do so.”
Jeff Daiell, Communications Director for the Gary For President Campaign, said that Mr. Perry’s entry will help both Mitt Romney, champion of the Rockefeller-Bush wing of the Republican Party, and Dr. Ron Paul, standard-bearer for the Goldwater-Reagan Republicans, “while hurting all of those in between, such as Rep. Bachmann and former Sen. Santorum. Gov. Perry will further split the ‘politics-as-usual’ vote.”
A Perry nomination, Daiell added, “would be a major boost to the Libertarian Party, since it would prove that neither the Democratic nor the Republican wing of the Beltway Party is serious about restoring free markets, civil liberties, and a non-interventionist foreign policy.”
Gary added, “I have seen that Libertarians and other Americans are eager for a candidate who will bring our full message to the American voter. Americans have been battered by the failed policies of the Democrats and Republicans long enough, and I believe that we can reach out to them successfully if we stand by all of our principles.”
Gary has been elected to local office in Texas. In 1993, he won a seat on San Antonio River Authority. Additionally, Gary has served on the Libertarian National Committee.
