Independent Weekly‘s Matt Saldana writes that following a “tepid endorsement from Rep. Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin “is counting on a miracle in his run for president on the Constitution Party ticket.” But “Paul’s support for Baldwin — over Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr — seems to have evaporated. Following his endorsement, Paul has refrained from mentioning Baldwin on his Web site.”

i think paul made the most libertarian statement he could have with his minor party press conference :
“here are all the other choices… now get informed and DECiDE FOR YOURSELF”… just because he’s voting for baldwin…does not make you a traitor voting for barr…..i don’t like barr.. i think he is a pip…but i am still voting him for the sake of the libertarian party.
the message was bigger than the election… it was to reform the election process into a fair one.. where all are represented. don’t be hatin’
It’s pretty clear the endorsement was borne more of the personaity conflict with Barr than anything real enthusiasm for Baldwin. With the number of Paul staffers who enjoy innocuous vices like poker or online gambling or watching cheerleaders, the Baldwin people should not expect the entire “Paul machine” to be working tirelessly for their cause, such as it is.
Correct me if I missed something but as I recall it Ron Paul only stated that HE intended to vote for Baldwin. I don’t recall him going any further than that by suggesting “and so should you.”
I am pretty surprised by how weird this whole thing got. I had hoped to see some peace overtures by now. The last thing we need to do is bicker amongst ourselves over what amounts to fairly insignificant differences when compared to what the major parties are trying to impose upon the entire nation, uh, world. We’ll never get anywhere doing this!

Ron Paul fumbled it? Really? He’s on television everyday articulating an Austrian perspective to millions of people who have never heard it before. He held a rally which brought together people of all ilks. I know- I was there. Yeah, what a collosal failure he is. And why? He chose to endorse one minor candidate over another. Because that is what the necon statist Bob Barr is- a minor candidate. He is a pretender. The success of the liberty movement will not be determined by this election or the Libertarin Party nominee. The press isn’t talking to Ron Paul because of who he endorsed or who he didn’t endorse. Ron Paul is being listened to, because he did not fumble it.
The only thing this story points out is how completely Paul pissed away an unprecedented opportunity to move this country in a libertarian direction. He couldn’t have deflated the critical mass that had built up in a more effective fashion if he had set out to do so.

Ron Paul had built serious critical mass for a liberty movement, and fumbled it away. There is no denying that fact.
Rather than asking if there is any evidence that Paul regrets the endorsement, ask what evidence there is that he is validates it. A posted endorsement on his website and then nothing? This is the most he can do to support his chosen candidate? Pretty lame.
So because Ron Paul doesn’t drop Chuck Baldwin’s name every minute it means his support has “evaporated” What the hell does that mean? I hate articles like this. Unless you have real evidence that Paul regrets endorsing Baldwin instead of “Well, Ron went a whole day without mentioining Baldwin’s name.” What drivel!

Considering the politics surrounding the bail out, one can only imagine what the current presidential campaign would look like if RP had gone ahead and run 3rd party.
That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “evaporated”. Simply that he does not wish to drill the point home that his supporters should pick Chuck. I think people have this whole “endorsement” thing over their heads… he didn’t actually say he was endorsing Chuck before anyway. Sure, it seems backwards to us, but remember, this is how Paul operates. I really don’t see any significance in this.
