From Ballot Access News, August 12, 2013:
The Alabama Libertarian Party has nominated Dick Coffee for U.S. House, for the special election in the First district that will be held later this year. The party has already started petitioning to get on the ballot for that election.
The Libertarian Party of Alabama has not had any candidates on the ballot for statewide or federal office since 2002. In that year, the party ran a full slate of candidates – for U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor and State Treasurer. The percentage of the vote in each race received ranged from 1.5% for U.S. Senate to 3.24% for State Auditor. The party also ran candidates in all seven of Alabama’s congressional districts. By contrast, the Democratic Party only ran candidates in four districts. Percentages received by congressional candidates ranged from 1.42% to 12.95%. One of the candidates that ran was Coffee, who was campaigning in the first district against incumbent Jo Bonner, whose resignation triggered the special election this year. In that election, Coffee won 1.65% of the vote. -KL

Byrne or Fincher will win the race.
Hopefully Mr Coffee can get some support from Tea Party types.
