The Peoria Journal Star of Illinois reports Constitution Party candidate Brad Carter filed this week to run for Congress in the state’s 18th District, an open-seat race where GOP Rep. Ray LaHood is retiring. But Carter “did not fulfill the signature requirement for the office and if his candidacy is contested by 5 p.m. Monday, he will be booted from the race.”
Carter, who works in the warehouse at a metal fabricating company, said, “I’m just a regular guy that has regular problems and I see the issues slightly different. As a guy that has to work for a living, I’m thinking about the economy. I don’t think either of the candidates have the right view on how to help the economy.” In addition to the major party candidates, Green Sheldon Schafer is also on the ballot.
Sorry for the Carter thread jack (which is why I posted the above comment), but I have a question for Red: Since we’re talking about former presidents, do you agree with my assessment that the best (and possibly only “good”) president ever was Grover Cleveland? Just asking…

Harding was the least bad.
Carter was quite possibly the least bad president of the 20th century. Who was less bad than him? Harding? Coolidge? They’re the only contenders.
Good luck to Brad. I met him at the CP Convention. He is, I believe, related to Jimmy Carter. It would be nice to get a good Carter in office. Georgia is still trying to live the other Carter down. (JC has been a good ex-President in many ways.)
