An Invitation and Challenge to Glenn Beck

Dear Glenn,
When I read on Wednesday that you had finally and totally given up hope on reforming the Republican Party from within, my first thought was, well it’s about time! Like many Libertarians, I’ve followed your work off and on for many years and I’ve been impressed with some elements of it – especially your books and speeches on the constitution and founding principles. I can respect the political theory of working to change the major parties from within, but personally I reached the conclusion long ago that they are both irrevocably corrupt. I think it’s abundantly clear by now to the vast majority that the Democrat and Republican establishment parties are playing the very same crooked game, by the same rules, and with the same goal – the perpetuation of their political careers, consolidation of power, and the expansion of the state. I would point to the recent abysmally low voter turnout numbers as evidence of this fact.
My second thought upon reading your declaration swearing off the Republican Party was – Bravo! But what now?
I have a suggestion for you. What if I told you that there is a political party, a party with principles, a party that shares your passion for liberty, small government, and the constitution, a party uncorrupted, a party with a 40-year legacy of unwavering commitment to its core values, a party unwilling to give up on this great experiment in freedom that we call our country, a party experiencing a surge of growth and strength in this libertarian moment of history, and a party with ballot access in your state. That party is the Libertarian Party of Texas.
But Glenn, I don’t want to sugar coat anything for you. The battle for liberty is not an easy one as you know. It takes personal courage to stand up to the entrenched political class and maybe even those in your own camp that would call you a traitor for holding fast to your principles no matter what, no matter the cost, and for as long as it takes. I salute you for taking a very important step on the journey. But I would also challenge you to go further – I would challenge you to go all the way to total liberty.
Glenn, the foundation of total liberty is the Non-Aggression Principle. This simple concept – that no one has the right to initiate force against another – is the fundamental core of everything we and the founding fathers believe about how to create human freedom in a peaceful and prosperous society.
I challenge you to openly embrace the non-aggression principle and all that flows from it. Denounce force, fraud, and coercion. Read the platform of the Libertarian Party of Texas and, if you agree, endorse LPTexas as the true, credible, and strong alternative to big government in our great state. Glenn, you call yourself libertarian – isn’t it time that you joined the Libertarian Party?

I would not lump Alex Jones in the same category as Glenn Beck and Neal Boortz.
Yes, Jones started out as a Republican, but he figured out that the mainstream of the Republican Party was corrupt a long time ago, and he has not identified with them since the early or mid 1990’s. Jones has also been a consistent critic of wars of the interventionist/imperialist foreign policy and the domestic police state (including the War on Drugs). He was also one of the most harsh critics of the Bush administration (unlike Glenn Beck and Neal Boortz).
Alex Jones does identify himself as a Christian, but so what. Being a Christian does not mean that one cannot also be a libertarian (some would argue that to be a real Christian one must also be a libertarian).
I am not really into religion myself, but I do not think that non-religious libertarians should go around attacking or alienating those who are.
Both Beck and Jones are too right-leaning (in their own ways) and too prone to melodrama and histrionics. I’d be welcoming, but cautious. We’ve been through the back and forth drama from others like them (Boortz comes to mind).
Darryl W. Perry, you are wrong. Alex Jones has referred to himself as a libertarian on numerous occasions. He has also referred to himself as a freedom fighter, a truth seeker, an independent, and yes, a constitutionalist (although he has expressed openness to anarcho-capitalism / voluntaryism), but none of these self identifications mean that he can’t be a libertarian as well.
Well Glen certainly is no libertRian when it comes to imagration is he?

I think Kurt Hildebrand’s letter was a fine piece of writing. I hope Glenn Beck will read it with the same thoughtfulness as was put into its crafting.
Very good letter, warm, welcoming and positive. We need more liberty voices in the media, even though sometimes we do not agree 100% with them and we hold some reservations about them. Libertarian Party is the party of tolerance, we need to practice that daily or we will never win over many liberty people. This is a great move by Texas LP and I hope Glenn will respond. Even though he will take some time to think about it, but we should send this welcome message.
I agree, but it was played the right way. Beck is a media freak show, but he does have an audience that like to watch freak shows.
It would be great if Glenn Beck’s conversion is for real, but I suspect that he is still a Judas Goat.
Extremely well written. Whether Mr Beck pays any attention to it is, of course, unknown. But he certainly can’t scoff at it or put it down as poorly worded.
The chair of the Libertarian Party of Texas deserves to be congratulated for what he wrote.
Jill has obviously misinterpreted Alex Jones actual positions.
Alex Jones said that he supports any immigrant that is a libertarian and not a socialist, and this is 100% consistent with the Libertarian Zone.
Alex has also said that the state should not be in the marriage licensing business.
I’d take Alex Jones over Glenn Beck any day.
Also, for the person who brought up the Alex Jones / Piers Morgan incident, that generated massive publicity and served as a rallying cry for gun rights supporters. Anyone who supported Piers Morgan is a boot licking statist and not a real American.

I don’t trust Alex Jones, either. He’s really changed within the past couple years, and is very non-Libertarian on immigration and marriage equality.

If you mean better at being a negative voice for libertarianism, then I agree. One must only look at the “debate” between Jones & Piers Morgan. I am with Jones, not Morgan, on the gun rights issue, but Morgan DESTROYED Jones, or rather Jones destroyed himself. Alex Jones is nothing more than a colossal buffoon, and the best thing he could do for libertarianism is just go away. Whether you agree with him or not, he’s a caustic personality.
Beck’s been all over the map. I remember I was a fan of his show on CNN and then FOX, until it turned into a Billy Sunday revival. If I was the LPTX I’d run the other way on Beck, too.

If Glenn Beck’s conversion is for real, this could be a good thing. Given his past, I don’t know that he can be trusted. The LP has been taken before by con-men who claimed to have “seen the light” and “changed their ways” (see the 2008 Presidential ticket).
