Press Release:
CARSON CITY, Nev., July 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Dennis Hof–legal brothel mogul, HBO-TV star, best-selling author, successful business entrepreneur and Nevadan, has announced he has joined the Libertarian Party and has organized an exploratory committee to run for U.S. Senate.
Dennis Hof (Hof) announced today he has washed his hands of the two major political parties, switching his affiliation to Libertarian (www.LPNevada.org) and forming an official Exploratory Committee to consider a run for Harry Reid’s U.S. senate seat in 2016. Hof’s move to run for the long Democrat-held position comes on the heels of state lawmakers passing the largest tax increase in Nevadahistory, pushing business-owner Hof to finally say he’s “Fed up and not going to take it anymore!”
“I’ve voted for Democrats and Republicans all my life, and all it’s gotten me, and all Nevadans, is more taxes and regulations and less freedoms, I’m disgusted with them both. As of today I have changed my party affiliation to the Libertarian Party and I am supporting the Libertarian Party of Nevada and encourage other people to do the same,” said Hof, the owner of the world famous Moonlite Bunny Ranch (www.BunnyRanch.com) and six other licensed Nevada brothels. “And if I really want to change things in this state, and this country, I have to have some skin in the game—and running for U.S. Senator may just be the best way to do it.”
The Hof For Senate 2016 Exploratory Committee is being headed up by Libertarian Party of Nevada Chairman Brett H. Pojunis(Pojunis), who along with other Libertarian Party officials met with Hof at the party’s recent Libertarian Political Expo (www.LPEX.org) held in Las Vegas. Pojunis and Hof came away from the confab deciding to join forces to take on both the state and federal political establishments.
“Dennis Hof epitomizes what being a libertarian is all-about. He’s been living as a libertarian all his life—and the Libertarian Party ofNevada is proud to now welcome him into our party as an ‘official’ Libertarian,” said Pojunis. “Exploring the possibility of having Dennis as the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate from Nevada is both exciting and unprecedented. If Dennis decides to run, the entire nation will be watching our senate race, and they will all see the clear differences between the Libertarian Party, and the Democrat and Republican duopoly.”
The Hof For Senate 2016 Exploratory Committee will consist of a wide range of high-profile representatives from the worlds of entertainment, politics and media—with those already mentioned as possibilities including such luminaries as Tucker Carlson, Vince Neil, John Stossel, Rita Cosby, Ron Jeremy, Howard Stern, Judith Regan, Larry Flynt and Johnny Buss. Hof said that his group of advisors would be strictly “blue ribbon,” and he would be giving their analysis “serious consideration” in determining whether he should throw his hat into the 2016 Senate race ring.
Dennis Hof is available for interviews by contacting [email protected] or 775-720-9090

Hi LG, for anyone who didn’t scroll up or get the reference it’s to Penn and Teller. Penn did do some promo stuff for Gary Johnson. But I understand your point about history with the LP.
P and T have not helped the LP themselves ( they loaned stagehands to walk districts) since the infamous video, in case you dont know what Im talking about, they gave unnamed Libs unprecedented access to film them hoping to bring attention to the LP , but like Libs that dont know what they dont know, they self-edited and it was so amateurish that they will not risk their brand again……and now that the stage manager, Nate isnt our county chair, even free tickets are wishful tthinking
Consider the source.
And no, the LP does not have a position in favor of legalizing pedophilia.
Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government’s treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.
Emphasis added.

ROFL.
I’m not so sure that’s sincere, vs. a tongue-in-cheek publicity stunt. Another article I saw, had several quotes from the “Hookers for Hillary” mocking Hillary for various things, that were obviously sarcastic.
Judge for yourself:
“Hof told The Daily Caller “Air Force Amy has announced that she’s going to give another half-hour to any donor who donates to Hillary. An extra half-hour of time in the bedroom. That’s her way of supporting…” ”
…
““Because I’ll stick by any woman that stands by her man in a cheating relationship so that she can further her career,” says Air Force Amy. “I’m voting for Hillary Clinton because I have just as much trouble with my emails as she does.””

He’s supporting Hillary Clinton? Disappointing. Good article, though.

What answer are you talking about?
So… what is the answer?

That’s all part of their regular act, I doubt they did it just because the LP was in town. All of the materials they produce- their TV shows, podcasts, interviews, appearances – is stuff they do on top of having their show at the Rio four or five nights a week, so I totally believe him when he says he was too busy.

I think that the main thing that keeps people like this from being involved with the LP is that they do not see those of us who are involved being active and effective enough. I think that if the LP had its act together more that there are a heck of a lot of people who are small “l” libertarians who are currently sitting on the sidelines who’d decide to get involve with the LP, including some people who are rich and famous, like Penn & Teller.

One unfortunate thing that I think keeps some celebrities (and even non-celebrity libertarian movement notables) away from LNCs, is being instantly bombarded with a million pleas to run for office as a Libertarian. That’s unfortunate, but understandable,
Andy Craig said: “I’d still probably have to stop by if I was ever in Vegas. That and seeing Penn & Teller.”
I know a Libertarian who went to see Penn & Teller perform during the week of the LP National Convention in Las Vegas in 2012. After the show, Penn & Teller hang around and sign autographs and this guy got a chance to talk to them. He told them that the Libertarian Party has having its National Convention that weekend at the Red Rocks Hotel & Casino and invited them to stop by the convention. Penn & Teller claimed that they were too busy.
They did apparently incorporate some libertarian themes into their acts, like they did a skit lambasting the TSA, etc…
From they way I’ve heard him explain it in interviews, there’s a special section of the shop for all the historical novelities. That’s the part they close off to film the show (which is, of course, scripted- those are extras you see ‘shopping’ in the background). When they’re not filming, that part is open to the public but from what I hear, terribly crowded, and you won’t see any of the guys who are on TV.
The rest is the actual regular working pawn shop that mostly does metals and jewelry, and you won’t see Rick et al there either.
I’d still probably have to stop by if I was ever in Vegas. That and seeing Penn & Teller. I can probably pass on making a trip out to the Bunny Ranch, but to each his own. :p
langa said: “Anyway, I agree that Harrison seems like a nice guy. I’d love to stop by his shop if/when I ever make it out to Vegas.”
I was in Las Vegas last year and I actually drove right by his shop a few times and I did not recognize it until somebody told me that that was his shop (when I passed by it I was not lookin for it). I wanted to stop in but never had the time. Some guys I was working with actually did stop in and they said that none of the guys from the show were there. Apparently, Rick, Corey, Chumlee, and the Old Man are not actually in the shop much when the show is not filming now that they are all TV stars.
I’d like to opportunity to sit down and talk to Rick. I think I could probably get him to join the LP if I had the chance to hang out with him.
There are a lot of people in this country who are libertarians, or are libertarian leaners, who we could probably get in the LP if the party was more active, and more active about recruiting people.
@Andy
I agree, you can’t judge based on that. But sometimes he does explicitly reference his own political opinions or ideology on various topics, often when the item is something from recent-ish history that’s political, but also when he talks about gold, or economics and business. The show is, among other things, a lesson on the subjective theory of value. 😉

“I’m pretty sure it is ceremonial.”
Court jester?
I vaguely recognize the type: fairly libertarian on domestic policy, pretty good on economics and having a distaste for social conservatives, but then we lose them on foreign policy, which they take this nationalistic realpolitik Kissinger type stance on. … And in presidential elections they take the (not unreasonable) position that foreign policy is the biggest consideration, so all those other things we’d agree with them on, they don’t vote on the basis of.
DTLs (Dondero-type “libertarians”) I have encountered quite a few of them, and the conversation usually goes like this:
DTL: Boy, that Obama is a real idiot.
Me: He sure is. Then again, so are virtually all politicians.
DTL: You sound like a libertarian.
Me: That’s because I am.
DTL: Hey, me too! So, I guess we’ll just have to root for Rand, huh?
Me: Actually, I can’t get too excited about him. I’m a big fan of his father, though.
DTL: Ron? Well, he’s great on most things, but his foreign policy is just nuts. Doesn’t he realize there’s an evil Islamic caliphate that’s going to take over the world and impose Sharia law? How can we be free under Sharia law? [Continues with long, bizarre Hannity-esque rant.]
Anyway, I agree that Harrison seems like a nice guy. I’d love to stop by his shop if/when I ever make it out to Vegas.
I’m pretty sure it is ceremonial.
I saw an episode of Pawn Stars where Rick Harrison was interested in a letter by FDR touting how wonderful the then new Social Security program was. This does not automatically mean that Rick Harrison thinks that the Social Security program is a good idea, or that FDR was a great President (he may or may not).
Just because a person is interested in something it does not automatically mean they agree with it.
He does seem to have a bit of a Tom Clancy thing going on. I vaguely recognize the type: fairly libertarian on domestic policy, pretty good on economics and having a distaste for social conservatives, but then we lose them on foreign policy, which they take this nationalistic realpolitik Kissinger type stance on. Rubio is even using “New American Century” (as in “Project for a…”) as his slogan. And in presidential elections they take the (not unreasonable) position that foreign policy is the biggest consideration, so all those other things we’d agree with them on, they don’t vote on the basis of.
Whatever disagreements I might have, he’s a smart guy. Be interesting to hang out with, I bet. Or maybe that’s just TV, who knows.
I’ll have to look more into Hof. Seems pretty good from what I’ve seen, but I’m not really familiar with his public persona and the rest of it. Great fit for Nevada. He should get Penn Jillette to endorse him. 🙂
I’m a big “Pawn Stars” fan, and I’ve often wondered about Rick Harrison’s politics. On the one hand, I know he has said some libertarian stuff, but he also seems to be fascinated by anything related to war. Anytime anyone brings in any type of military item, and especially something that was used in an actual war, his eyes light up and he starts talking about how “really cool” or how “awesome” it is.
Of course, his interest in such things could be benign (just like I’m a big fan of horror movies, but deplore violence in real life), but I have noticed that people who collect war memorabilia are often proponents of a bellicose foreign policy. In his case, that could explain his support for the warmongering Rubio.
I mean, I don’t know if they’re paying him. But in theory that position would involve doling out funds to RLC candidates, so I wouldn’t think he could be one of them.

Root has an actual job with the RLC?

Really? I didn’t see that. I knew had some more GOP leanings, but I thought he was better than that.
Shame.

Unfortunately, Rick Harrison has endorsed Marco Rubio for President.
I thought he was going to run for Mayor of Las Vegas? His current job with the RLC would seem to preclude running as a candidate himself, for the time being.
Speaking of Nevada libertarian celebrities: Rick Harrison, the Pawn Stars guy. He was a Ron Paul supporter too, and his libertarian political beliefs are sometimes referenced in the show. (Including being a big-time gold bug anti-Fed guy, of course). I don’t know if he would have any interest, but him running for something as a Libertarian (House?) while Hof is on the same ticket for Senate would be quite the interesting slate.
Agreed. Sounds like a good thing, and that he’s pretty serious about it. Good job on the part of Pojunis as well.
Should make for an interesting campaign…
I’d vote for this guy over a idiot psycho like Grundmann any day.
I think he only mentioned the Ron Paul part.
How odd… Richard just said the same thing over at BAN.
He is a businessman, and probably a gun owner, so there are reasons why he would have been a Republican. He was well known for supporting Ron Paul, so it’s not surprising he came over to the LP.
As I said over at BAN… I can’t believe this guy was ever a Republican. He should have been a Libertarian from day one.
