A third candidate for Libertarian National Committee Chair has joined the race. LNC At-Large Member Steven Nekhaila announced on Monday his plans to seek the position at next month’s Libertarian National Convention. More to come in a future article.

Thank you, Jordan, for posting the link to the Mother Jones article about the Libertarian Party. It helped me better understand what has been happening to the LP which I have been a member of since 1978. It is sad to see this implosion. I hope reasonable people on both sides will put their stylistic differences aside and focus on what they agree on so they can restore the LP to its course of expanding liberty for the American people.

Two members of the Libertarian National Committee have called on LNC Region 6 Representative Mark Tuniewicz to step down following his accidental use of a quote from a confidential conversation.

“Just a quick public apology.  A couple days ago, as part of a message requesting financial information disclosure about the CA Black Tie Fundraiser and the Rage Against the War Machine rally, I inadvertently released a brief quote from a confidential conversation.  By way of explanation, this came during the days when the LNC was transitioning to a new email system, I quickly skimmed a message that came later in a thread, and mistakenly included it in my other comments,” writes Tuniewicz in the LNC business list today.

The Libertarian Party of Georgia met over the weekend for their state convention. As part of it, the party hosted a presidential debate featuring several Libertarian Party presidential candidates. This thread by X user @CasualMental discusses a breakdown of the debate complete with photos and video clips.

Is someone tapping the LP web site, the ‘send email to officers’? I sent an email to Secretary and Chair, using their web forms, suggesting that a couple of lavelliere mikes might solve their sound issues.

The next day I received a spam email from a company selling them.

It looks like the Mises Caucus have their presidential candidate. From a message I received from a member of the Misses Caucus . . .

“Dear Mises Caucus Members and Supporters, . . .

. . . new challenge of managing Michael Rectenwald’s presidential campaign.

With Dr. Rectenwald, we have the opportunity to put forth the best and boldest candidate the Libertarian Party has had since the great Harry Browne ran in 1996 and 2000. Like Harry Browne, Dr. Rectenwald will refuse to compromise the libertarian message merely to boost presidential vote totals in the short run without bringing committed activists into the LP and the liberty movement. . . . “

Libertarians disagree a lot about abortion. The best abortion plank for them is none, or if they have to have one, it should acknowledge there’s nothing even close to a consensus among them on the issue, and not say anything else. How well abortion polls among the general public is besides the point; libertarian positions shouldn’t be based on public opinion polls, and even if that wasn’t true, opinions among people who might consider or rule out voting for them based on that issue may break down differently than they do among voters as a whole.

Pro life is the libetarian position. Abortion is murder which isn’t libertarian.

As in 2024 Libertarians may be considering a more emphatic abortion rights plank: Ohio had a referendum to protect their State Constitutional amendment process, so that their pro-choice amendment would have an easier path to passage this Fall. The vote was taken yesterday. “No” is effectively the pro-choice, pro ‘voters may amend the state constitution more easily’ vote. The more or less final vote totals were
    No 1,744,094 57.01%
    Yes 1,315,346 42.99%
showing strong support for the more libertarian position.
