David Weigel, over at Reason’s Hit& Run blog, has an extensive (and fair) report on the Revolution March in DC and its various participants. Most interesting to the readers of this blog, his comments on Chuck Baldwin.
The final speech before Paul’s came from Chuck Baldwin, the Pensacola, Florida pastor and Constitution Party candidate, who used the little time he had (graciously having given some of his minutes to Paul) to make a concise national sovereignty pitch. “You’re either a globalist or you’re an American,” Baldwin said. “And I… am an American!” Some of the Baldwin boosters in the crowd (many from Florida) started chanting “USA! USA!”
Some of the people I talked to at the march wondered why Bob Barr had no presence there, ceding all the ground to Chuck Baldwin. I can’t speak for Barr, but I don’t think he lost anything that by going to Freedom Fest instead of the Revolution March.
Also, Chuck Baldwin just published his own thoughts on the rally here.

“Baldwin points out, “I am against federal regulation of the internet…†and questions what more he can offer beyond that strong statement.”
Pretty clear GE.
GE,
Click on that link and goto Mary Starrett’s corrections. She says Baldwin said, indefinetly, “I will not support Federal regulation of the internet”.
Obvious? I think not. Listen to the audio of the interview. He SPECIFICALLY corrected me when I implied he was saying he was against federal regulation of gambling.
Once again ill point to Chuck’s statement,it is obvious he is against Federal involvement on the issue.
as for “allowing” states to do anything–Baldwin as president would have no control of such a thing.
You can ban “interstate gambling” without “regulating the internet” per se. I’m sure pres rev chuck would allow states to legalize intrastate online poker playing.

It wasn’t an accident that Dr Paul picked that issue to speak to Saturday.
sunshinebatman,
Show me ANYTHING that says Baldwin wants to touch internet gambling…
The people who did the Paul-O-Meter said the same thing.
#9… Baldwin points out, “I am against federal regulation of the internet…†and questions what more he can offer beyond that strong statement.”
This was posted by the campaign’s communications director.
After he praised Baldwin, Dr. Paul made a point to take a potshot at people who want to ban Internet gambling (like Chuck Baldwin).
Using a boxing metaphor the first round goes to Balwin. The more I hear the better he sounds. Unfortunately I have been a Libertarian since 1980 who attended the convention in Denver and though I did not support Barr I will be voting for him. The delegates spoke and I feel obligated to vote for their choice.
As to Mary being a better choice if she was the nominee and she attended this event would not she be hurt by her views concerning age of consent laws? Baldwin who obviously has the main stream view on age of consent laws would win by knockout.
All the reports im recieving say Baldwin was EXTREMELY well recieved. Now if only the man could raise some money, get in the polling data, and get on national television.
“Barr was probably wise not to show as he could have easily received more jeers than cheers from such a crowd.”
The truth.
Why don’t people understand this?
It was a good decision for Barr not to attend. The reaction he would have received, particularly in comparison to that of Baldwin, would have been embarrassing.
Steve, was Mary at the event?
Barr was probably wise not to show as he could have easily received more jeers than cheers from such a crowd. However, the idea that he chose to be out West *rather than attend* seems a little difficult to beleive. Didn’t Paul speak at both events?
Dave Weigel may think that Barr didn’t lose anything by not showing up at this rally, but regardless or whether or not the crowd would have warmed up to him or not, Barr now takes a back seat to Chuck Baldwin as far as positive comments or support to be given by Ron Paul.
Lest anyone think that Mary Ruwart was not the heir apparent to the “R3VOLution”, Mary as the LP nominee would never have passed up this event, and would at least be on par with Baldwin in the eyes of Ron Paul, and his supporters. Barr, on the other hand has decidedly slipped into 2nd place.
Does anyone have a report on the Freedom Fest ?
Not a wise move on the Barr campaign’s part IMO.
Some people did. most of Thompson’s supporters were just too lazy, like their candidate.
People voted for Fred Thompson?
Barr didn’t lose anything because he had nothing to lose. His support lies with people for whom McCain is too liberal — people who voted for Fred Thompson — not libertarians or constitutionalists, of which Barr is neither.
