The newspaper Extra – a Spanish and English newspaper – has printed an interview with Green Party candidate Deb Gordils. Gordils is one of four Green candidates participating in a special primary on March 3rd. The April election will decide who will fill White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s vacant congressional seat. Gordils is the only Hispanic in the Green race, and the district was about one quarter Hispanic at the time of the 2000 census, with the number of Hispanics only increasing since then.
The whole interview can be read here, and here is her answer to one question:
On what congressional committees would you like to serve and why?
Immigration
I have a detail plan on how to strengthen this nation by folding half of the undocumented immigrants into the fabric of America.Homeland Security
I believe in protecting the citizens of this nation at all cost. Instead of just fencing the borders of America, I support the selling of the land that runs along America at a low cost to farmers, I support the factories and corporations and establish a workers visa right to work in this area. This will bring businesses and jobs back to America, while allowing an unsecured area to become stable.Health and Disability
I am a parent of a child with special needs and unlike ever before, children in record numbers are in need of special services. Children’s hospitals and homes all over America are caring for children with autism, cancer, an onslaught of educational preventive disorders and congenital heart diseases of which my daughter suffers from. I owe it to my daughter to do all I can so that her life and the life of all families dealing with special needs children get the best services this country can offer.
