LA Times Article: Las Vegas gets its first national political party

Andrew Malcolm and Craig Howie of the Los Angeles Times report the Libertarian Party’s plans to hold its next Presidential nominating convention in Las Vegas.

Finally, the desert city of Las Vegas breaks the ice and gets its first national political convention.

The Libertarian Party will gather there the first week of May 2012 to nominate its national ticket of guaranteed losers.

The Libertarians’ choice of Nevada along with the Republicans’ choice of Tampa for their 2012 nominating convention in late August means the country’s two major parties have now settled on their meeting sites.

The only one left is the fringe third-party Democrats, who haven’t agreed yet on one of four cities: Cleveland, Charlotte, Minneapolis and St. Louis.

What are they doing to Starchild?”

    LOL!

I’m tired of going on double dates with Democrats and Republicans, but they just won’t take no for an answer.

    Double date? 😉

same take here as BR. We’re being mocked, although fairly tamely.

Malcolm follows Libertarian politics more often than most mainstream commentators do. I think he gets a kick out of the fervor and in-fighting that is so prevalent in insurgent movements.

    national political party

    Party like it’s 1984….

(Note: the Democrats and Republicans give you the choice between the dude on the left and the one on the right in the picture above).

Actually, it’s quite clearly meant as a tongue-in-cheek put down of the LP, in addition to the comment line “guaranteed losers” used to describe the eventual LP nominees. It mocks Libertarians who consider themselves equal to the two major parties and demand parity in coverage and treatment. It also serves as a swipe at the Democrats who fell so badly 2010 and could fall still further in 2011 and 2012 elections.

I’m wondering if that was meant as a joke of if it is a misprint.

I had to share this article, mostly because I am particularly amused at how the authors refer to the Democrats as the fringe third-party.
