On behalf of the Washington Pirate Party, we welcome you to us.pirate.is. WAPP wishes to utilize this Icelandic-hosted, top-level domain to help bring together people that are sensitive to the many issues surrounding the freedom of information, individual privacy, and the open sharing of knowledge and culture.
As the newly elected chairman of WAPP’s board of directors, I wish to extend an invitation to all current and future Pirate Party leaders within the United States of America. In retrospect of the closure of the United States Pirate Party earlier this year, I would like to assist in the creation of a Pirate National Committee.
The PNC would exist only to facilitate national and international communications between Pirate Parties. They would have no direct influence over any state organization nor any control over any state organization’s governing rules or operations. The PNC would gather and organize the many aspects of forming and maintaining a healthy Pirate Party within the United States. The PNC would assist, only when asked by a developing or mature state organization, to counsel any state organization in need of a predefined scope of support.
The PNC would be composed of one representative of a state recognized organization from all 50 states, having filed with their state and keeping their organization in good standing with the state. These state representatives who would make up the PNC should meet monthly to bolster the organizational capabilities of the state parties on a national and international level, offering support where the PNC is needed. Any representative serving the PNC would have his or her skills prioritized firstly to their state that they represent.
Duties of state representatives who make up the PNC would include voting in and out recognized state organizations as they form and dissolve. Another would be to document and organize information pertinent to state organizations, and to publish that information on one of the many pirate.is sub-domains including us.pirate.is and wiki.pirate.is. The PNC would also elect a single, national representative to hold general-membership with Pirate Party International.
State representatives should be elected by their state organization for their leadership qualities including sound communication skills, an ability to give constructive feedback, and the empathy to deal with individuals as opinionated as yourself. Standing behind your ideals without appreciating your peer’s work and/or knowledge would be unacceptable.
If you’re a member of a Pirate-Party-oriented, state-recognized organization, I welcome those organizations interested to contact WAPP directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. Any announcements concerning any PNC developments would be made public on this site, but I need to be able to communicate directly with interested organizations. Please comment with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Let’s make this happen.
