Article on J.L. Mealer vs. Virgil Goode for the Constitution Party Nomination

Thanks to Darren for drawing our attention to this article from the Examiner.

There’s a battle raging for the party’s nomination for President. No, we’re not talking about the Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians or Greens. Those political parties have all but sown up their nominees for President. One party however, the Constitution Party, is in the midst of a David and Goliath match between the outsider and non-politician JL Mealer versus the ex-Congressman, ex-Democrat and ex-Republican Virgil Goode.

One would think that an anti-establishment political party like the Constitution Party would choose an anti-establishment candidate for its Presidential nomination. One might also think that an independent party like the Constitution Party would provide a level playing field for the half dozen candidates vying for the party’s nomination for President. Sadly, that’s not the case.

For whatever reason, the Constitution Party is not so subtly promoting the party-hopping former Congressman Goode over the other handful of Constitution Party candidates. In numerous places on the Party’s website, it promotes Goode as the high-profile, presumptive nominee. It’s actually quite similar to the special help Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been receiving from the GOP establishment. Other independent news outlets and many rank and file Constitution Party members however, are vocally opposing the premature coronation of Mr. Goode during his brief stopover on the Constitution Party’s doorstep…

    Trent and all…
I was in the trenches with the various people around the nation fighting the unconstitutional, never-properly-ratified Federal Reserve, Income Tax (17th Amendment) and the usury and antitrust violations that comes with it.

NewFederalist, odd that that is your name because I/we worked hand in hand with someone using that same label before personal computers were mainstream and ole’ Gore ‘had not yet invented the Internet’… We’re on the same side, but I will not yield to tyranny or unconstitutional laws and violations thereof.

I will be the US President in 2016 provided the establishment does not cut me down with the Mealer Initiative (from the private sector).

Once again folks, I was in the Constitution party f/k/a Constitution Provisional Party (the name/anagram/moniker of “CPP” wouldn’t cut it in the early 90’s) and prior to that the Arizona US Taxpayers party… All prior to anyone making the claim at national level. I am on record with the Maricopa County recorder for all of this and it predates the current CP.

One last thing which I must stress. I will NEVER back down, nor will I stand down when it comes to corruption and a fraudulent Congress creating fraudulent ‘anti-American’ laws. Like it or lump it… When it comes time, you can stand with someone who has backbone or one of the smooth talking teleprompter reading job killing creeps like we see running for office with the two major parties.

Keep your powder dry in the meantime.

Plus he wouldn’t have a future in the CP if he pulled a Peroutka.

Realistically–Castle won’t get the nomination unless Goode steps aside. Goode is the frontrunner by a country mile. Castle could conceivably be a VP consideration, although I think someone like Scott Bradley (Utah) or Randy Stufflebeam (Illinois) is going to get it.

= Yeah that’s the most likely scenario.

If he’s smart, he’ll go after anti-Mormon GOP voters. Ron Paul voters aren’t going to be his cadre.

= If he’s going to do that, he better do it in a way that doesn’t bash the LDS church or its beliefs; he would alienate the Mormon constitutionalist vote in Utah and the Rocky Mountain states, (along with LDS members of the CP) if he so much dared to play the anti-Mormon card on the campaign trail.

  4. paulie April 12, 2012

NF, I think you are probably right.

We’ll see how it plays out though, since the dynamics of the overall race will be different this time.

  5. Trent Hill April 12, 2012

And I’m quite confident he’d get the highest vote total for the CP yet if he made the ballot in PA and CA–like all previous nominees have (except Baldwin).

  6. Trent Hill April 12, 2012

    NewFed,

I think he could be a CP version of Barr. However, I think he’s smarter than that.

If he’s smart, he’ll go after anti-Mormon GOP voters. Ron Paul voters aren’t going to be his cadre.

  7. NewFederalist April 12, 2012

I suspect Goode will turn out to be the CP version of Barr. He may get more votes than Baldwin (especially if he gets the AIP line in CA) but in the end he will disappoint on many levels.

Realistically–Castle won’t get the nomination unless Goode steps aside. Goode is the frontrunner by a country mile. Castle could conceivably be a VP consideration, although I think someone like Scott Bradley (Utah) or Randy Stufflebeam (Illinois) is going to get it.

If Goode is smart, he’ll keep eschewing foreign policy issues–throughout the convention and at least long enough to get the AIP ballot, if that’s at issue. I have no idea if the Alaskan Independence Party wants to put him on the ballot, but it would probably help with them too. One can even imagine the Conservative Party of New York getting him on the ballot there, though I certainly wouldn’t go holding my breath.

Of course, the outcome of this would be that, once again, Montana would reject his name being on the ballot.

I suspect Goode will have moderated his views on foreign policy somewhat. If he is a good politician, and I think he probably is, he will have sought advice from party insiders and have been slowly changing his views–ala Barr or Baldwin 08, both of whom got more libertarian (or talked more libertarian) over time.

Ideally, for the CP, Goode will be able to convince someone to be his running mate who is both acceptable to the CP and brings some outside benefit. Ballot status in some major state would be great, but money is a good replacement for that.

  9. NewFederalist April 12, 2012

    I heartily agree with Andy @ 12!

  10. RedPhillips April 12, 2012

Trent, my hunch is that one reason Goode is being coy about foreign policy is so he can secure the AIP ballot line in CA.

  11. Trent Hill April 12, 2012

Goode would probably be wise to try to bring in someone with money, a party man, or someone who can get him access to a large state ballot–California seems the most likely. Someone with media connections would be good.

Mary Ruwart has good media connections and is photo-and-tele-genic.

Laurie Roth is on over 50 radio stations 6 days a week for 2 hours, so she has reach and some followers.

As for party men, Darryl Castle would undoubtedly be the smartest pick.

As to who would bring in a big ballot–Illinois, New York, Texas, or California….unless a deal can be struck with the AIP, I don’t see it happening.

  12. Andy April 12, 2012

“they might be smart to convince Castle to step forward or either”

Darryl Castle would be a good candidate for the Constitution Party presidential nomination.

I thought Phillips et al started the US Taxpayers Party in ’91-92. Mealer says he was active in ’88 in AZ ???????

@7 NF’s final paragraph is very close to my belief.

Virgil Goode might not be the “answer” ! The CP rejected a “name” for a former VP in ’08, they might be smart to convince Castle to step forward or either nominate Robby Wells !!! I’m very opposed to RFID chips and Goode needs to explain.

What are the differences among the parties?
The bottom line of any political party’s platform is its philosophy of what the role of government should be. Both major parties legislate as if government is omnipotent and can solve all problems. As a result, our federal government has become immensely more powerful and more centralized, and many Americans have become more and more dependent on government, especially the federal government, in almost every aspect of their lives.

Libertarians and various other parties think man is sovereign and has all the answers, therefore, changes in cultural views and morals will result in changes in law and its interpretation. History has shown that cultures which have no absolutes end in anarchy.

The Constitution Party is the only party that acknowledges the sovereignty of God and believes that our rights come from God not government. We are committed to returning our country to government under the Constitution which is based on Biblical principles. The Constitution Party affirms the original Constitutional framework of federalism (sovereign states) and separation of powers, and calls for the repeal of all laws and the elimination of all government programs not authorized by the Constitution. Other parties may call for reducing the size of government, but none of them are committed to Constitutional principles.

The Constitution Party will hold candidates elected to public office accountable to the platform. Other parties allow their elected officials to act contrary to their platform and suffer no consequences.

  14. Trent Hill April 11, 2012

Red–I’ve never even heard the guy’s named. That’s after extensive conversations with party members from various eras from all over the US. If he was ever a member of the party, before, that’s all he was.

  15. RedPhillips April 11, 2012

Trent, in a thread at Ballot-Access Mealer said he had some involvement with it back when it was still the US Taxpayers’ Party. How extensive his involvement has been, I do not know.

  16. paulie April 11, 2012

Even if my ideology was much more in line with the CP, I would be questioning some aspects of Goode’s record and positions, and at the same time critical of some of these other candidates for starting at the top, as Trent pointed out.

#2: New Federalist, “arrogance” with the LAW backing one’s plans is not a bad thing considering our nation has been destroyed by lack of arrogance and vigilance in protecting the US Constitution and our Bill of Rights. Certainly you can agree on this point. When any man (in this instance, ‘me’) is right, he is right.

Your complete lack of modesty is not only distasteful but would make one wonder just how heavily you would wield power. I find your personality type frightening. Thank goodness it is highly unlikely that you will ever be elected to anything.

  18. Ad Hoc April 10, 2012

    Trent @5 Good questions.

  19. Trent Hill April 10, 2012

    JL,

Have you been in the Constitution Party for long? Why did you choose to run for President first, rather than a smaller, more winnable, office? Have you been to any national meetings? Have you contacted possible delegates yet?

  20. paulie April 10, 2012

Virgil Goode providing the funding to MZM is also a fact:
This is public record and something Goode is more than happy to tout. Goode sponsoring HR415 would have placed the very RFID chips in Driver Licenses and elsewhere has the senate passed his Bill. it is now rolled into the PATRIOT ACT and the NDAA as “means to maintain surveillance”.

    Disgraceful.

  21. JL Mealer April 10, 2012

Nice to have Google Alert for name recognition.

#1: I probably know the “Darren” who may be the man who passed on this article- I don’t know whether to kick his butt, or thank him for it.

#3: T-Rex Today- I can appreciate your backing of Mr. Wells (the coach), he is a good man and I’d much rather see him as the nominee than the corrupted Goode.
HOWEVER, no outsider POTUS will be able to change the corruption in Congress without [the MEALER PLANS] threatening and actually charging Congress with sedition due to the fraud and other massive and far reaching crimes they have committed while buying and selling our trust to the highest bidder. Goode is just one example.

The RFID chips and Goode are an absolute fact which the are proud of according to their website.

  22. I prefer the Coach. If this story is true and Goode is tied to RFID chips I see a problem. Not sure you can trust this however, sounds like a drowning man’s last gasps to survive. I did listen to a couple of the debates and the Football Coach sounds closer to Ron Paul than any of them !

Wonder how many states are targeted for ballot access this year ? The CP needs to pull the pro-life christians away from the Republicans finally and help GUT that bloated elephant once and for all…

I don’t find Mealer’s arrogance particularly refreshing anymore than I do Goode’s imperialist tendencies. I prefer Castle to either of them but he isn’t running.
