Constitution Party of Wisconsin (CPoW) Says: Christians Can Do More Than Just Be The Base
“Know ye not that ye shall judge angels?
How much more things that pertain to this life?” I Corinthians 6:3
By Riley J. Hood-CPoW State Chairman
In May of 2013, I was asked to sign (endorse) a Tea Party letter that was written to Governor Scott Walker, addressing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Make no mistake about it, CPoW opposes CCSS. However, I did not sign the letter, because it said, “Governor Walker… we are your base.”
CPoW is not part of any other party’s base. Unfortunately, Christians, out of a false sense of humility, insist on being the republican base. The term base means the lowest layer. I understand that every building needs a good foundation, but the base is still the lowest layer. To be the republican base means giving them your money, time and vote; but when it comes time to stand up for Biblical principles, it means being consistently snubbed by people who hate God. It usually means spending all your energy on your favorite primary candidate, seeing that candidate lose, and then “holding your nose” and voting for a “RINO,” so-called.
CPoW was founded as a Bible-based political party. It was founded as a place where Christians can be more than the base. Do not let some knee-jerk Libertarian accuse you of violating the First Amendment. The First Amendment applies to Congress and the Fourteenth Amendment has been used to apply the First Amendment to the States. However, political parties are “private associations,” that is how they are classified. Private Associations have Freedom of Association. I don’t like Communist anything, yet the Communist Party promotes Atheism, using their freedom of association.
Finally, our nation’s founders were not anarchists or atheists and they spoke differently about Christians in politics, even if they were not all saved men.
“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”-John Jay
“Religion and morality,…necessary for good government, good order, and good laws, for “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.”-William Patterson
“A watchful eye must be kept on ourselves lest, while we are building ideal monuments of Reknown and Bliss here, we neglect to have our names enrolled in the Annals of Heaven.” -James Madison
“We staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We’ve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity….to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” – James Madison
