(The following was a press release from Eliot Cutler’s Independent gubernatorial campaign in Maine. Cutler ran unsuccessfully for Governor in 2010, despite being endorsed by Angus King, Maine’s 2nd Independent Governor. On June 6, 2013 Cutler announced he would again be running for Governor as an Independent in 2014.)
Kyle Bailey, a seasoned political activist and fundraiser, has joined Independent Eliot Cutler’s campaign for governor as fundraising strategist. Since 2010, Bailey has served as Development Director for EqualityMaine and Maine Finance Director for Mainers United for Marriage, which raised more than $6 million to win marriage for same sex couples in Maine.
“Eliot will be a bold and courageous leader for our state because he is not beholden to party leaders, special interests or lobbyists,” Bailey said. “He understands what it’s like to run complex organizations, and has the relationships and know-how to get our economy moving again.”
In a recent op-ed in the Portland Press Herald, Bailey said “I have smart, young friends in Maine who are unemployed or underemployed. Gov. LePage’s gaffes and blunders have done little to drive job creation in Maine. Rep. Michaud may be a nice man, but he has no executive experience or history of creating jobs in the private sector.”
He said that Cutler will be a governor who “carries the hopes and dreams of our children and grandchildren with him every day, as he works to breathe new life into Maine’s economy and create greater opportunity for Maine families.”
“I have great respect for Kyle as a political leader, fighter for equality and proven fundraiser,” Cutler said. “Raising money as an Independent isn’t easy, but having Kyle on our team give us a tremendous asset. I am honored to have his support and assistance.”
Bailey is a graduate of the University of Georgia and is currently earning a Masters in Community Planning and Development at the University of Southern Maine. He lives in Gorham.
