LNC Investigates LP New Mexico

LNC Special Meeting on New Mexico

National Chair McArdle has announced she is calling a special meeting on the Libertarian Party’s New Mexico affiliate. Her announcement follows.  Our sources indicate you are seeing a recycle of the Traditional Libertarian/Mises Caucus dispute.

Angela McArdle wrote on the LNC public list

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, I have to call for a special meeting to discuss the Libertarian Party of New Mexico’s recent convention.

This meeting will be discussion only to hear from members and the officers of the LPNM regarding multiple complaints about their convention.

I’ve received about 10 different complaints so far from members with various histories and backgrounds in the party. Among those complaints are:

• The convention was not properly noticed.
• Approx. 30 to 40 members were not permitted to attend the convention.
• The technical errors from the online convention (poor wifi connection by the host, inability to connect and join the meeting, attendees were not able to hear speakers) were so egregious that multiple dues paying members were not able to participate.
• Comments by the chair made during the convention alluded to the meeting being held improperly.
• Multiple members paid dues and were not allowed to attend the convention.
• The previous convention was held in violation of the bylaws, and possibly prior conventions, as well.
• The bylaws and constitution don’t have seasoning requirements for special conventions.
• Disaffiliation from the national party was alluded to and there is a looming Secretary of State 30 day deadline to resolve any conflicts before this becomes a legal issue.

The purpose of this meeting is to hear from aggrieved members as well as the state affiliate so we can find out if this is something that falls within the purview of the national party’s discretion.

I have not selected a date yet because we need to make sure representatives from the different groups can attend, bit this meeting will take place online before our July 30th in person meeting.

Again, this should be a discussion only/fact finding meeting. I will try to issue a date by the end of today.

Is Virgil Goode still the poster boy of the CP? There should definitely alternative options to the two party power structure. Your only choice is Marxists to the left and Fascists to the right. I personally would like to see one candidate from every party on debate stage. One libertarian, one reform party, one green, one constitution, one unity party, one independent, one democrat, and one republican. This option would allow people to hear from all sides and points of view

I am not certain that trying to usurp the Constitution Party is the best move. First, let’s see what the new “ownership” actually does with the Libertarian Party. Second, if the LP becomes a disaster under new management, I would guess that Libertarians who actually care will turn out at the next convention and try to change things. If that actually becomes the scenario and the Mises Caucus hangs on to the party machinery only then would looking for a new political home make any real sense. Even then I question trying a hostile takeover of the CP. They have so little in the way of infrastructure (ballot access) to offer that establishing an entirely new party without ill will might be a better alternative.

There are other options than looking for a place in another party, starting another party, etc.

One of them could be donating to, working for, etc., individual campaigns that don’t have the mark of the Mises PAC beast on them.

Another could be just finding something other than party/electoral politics to do, either temporarily or permanently.

If people don’t like the Mises Caucus run LP, they should look for a new home. The Constitution Party is not ideal, but given the shrinking nature of the party it could become an ideal place for libertarians to rebuild

Using a litmus centrifuge technique to spin separate voters into layers of “true” shade versus “not true” shade party members is unwise. Not exactly “libertarian,” in any case.

As for the Constitution Party serving as a “true” home for uber conservative libertarian political refugees expelled from Eden in a quasi “final solution,” I am not convinced. It’s somewhat akin to an old Amos & Andy skit where Kingfish is trying to sell off a stage facade of a house as an actual house. There’s not much there there.

I suggest joining the Constitution Party. Think about it, do to the Constitution Party what the Mises Caucus did to the LP. LP is going in the wrong direction, might as well put another party in the right direction.

We have one for the Mises people…. The Constitution Party. They picked the LP purely because it had a more established apparatus…. The Constitution Party would have been far easier to take over, but they wanted the LP branding, and existing attention. Unfortunately the long term effects of this are the LP becoming the same as the Constitution Party, poorly run, disorganized, with a major lack of funding. The bitcoin fundraiser they’re running right now has been an abysmal failure.

The LP gas gone totally crazy the last few years. It has alienated true members in exchange for David Duke fan club. The LP in my state is anti – marijuana and pro Trump. Many are hardcore evangelicals and oppose liberty. However, they are considered the true libertarians. We need to have two parties for libertarians. One for true libertarians and one for Mises libertarians

If I”m not mistaken, the officers of the LPNM are affiliated with the Mises Caucus. I’m uncertain why this is expected to be a big deal.

The discretion of the “national party,” as represented by the LNC between conventions, comes down to one, binary matter:

To disaffiliate New Mexico, or not.

That’s it. That’s all. Nothing else.

Mises Caucus controlled LPF continues to have problems with proper accounting procedures and financial disclosures. Will there be a meeting on that?
