Several former Libertarian Party state affiliates announced over the weekend that they will join under the umbrella of a new organization, with the goal of eventually spreading into other areas.
In a December 3, 2022, press release on social media, the Libertarian Party of New Mexico, the Liberty Party of Virginia, and the Libertarian Association of Massachusetts announced plans to establish a new organization called the Association of Liberty State Parties (ALSP). In the release, the three state groups regarded the new ALSP as a “national party committee,” and provided early goals for the organization.
“The ALSP will enable cooperation between our state parties and the coordination of a national electoral strategy,” the statement read. “Through participation in the democratic process, we will advance our agenda of free people and limited government.”
The joint release also touched upon plans to expand into other states and nominate a presidential ticket for the 2024 election cycle. However, it gave very few detail about what those plans would entail other than it will be “the responsibility of the ALSP to organize a national convention for the nomination of candidates for President and Vice President of the United States.”
Discussion of a potential new national organization attracted speculation earlier this year. In October, Independent Political Report was first made aware that the ALSP had created a splash page with a functional email address. IPR would later confirm that the ALSP website was registered with GoDaddy and is based out of Pennsylvania.
In addition to the release, the website is also now more available to the public. While still unfinished, the website lists Connor Voskuil as the initial organization chair and Corgan Larson as its secretary. Voskuil is associated with the Libertarian Party of Allegheny County, and Larson is the current Chair of the Libertarian Party of Minnehaha County in South Dakota. It is currently unknown who else is involved with the organization in a leadership capacity.
