The Green Party of the United States recently released a report detailing the results of its candidates in the 2023 election cycle. The report includes information on the total number of candidates who ran earlier this month, as well as which ones were successful and where they won.
According to the report, the Green Party identified at least 44 members or candidates affiliated with the party who ran earlier this November. Among these 44 candidates, 15 were reported as successful by the party’s findings, with virtually all being from municipal and city communities.
Out of the 15 successful Green Party officials, three were elected to city council positions, and another three secured positions on school boards or committees. Greens also found some success in special and county districts. Additionally, six out of the nine incumbent candidates who were up for re-election this cycle were successful.
On a statewide level, the Green Party’s best performance was in Mississippi. Steven Brian Griffin, the party’s candidate for the State Transportation Commission, received 66,332 votes, or 27.7% of the total, in a two-way race. On a legislative level, the party also found success in Mississippi, with Artis Burney, a state senate candidate, earning 10.2% in a three-way race, and Gregory Todd “Ttodd” Fortenberry, a legislative candidate, securing 15.8% in a two-way election.
In addition to November’s results, the Green Party fielded 40 candidates for strictly municipal elections from March to August earlier this year. Of these, 26 candidates were successful, making the total number of Green Party elected officials for the year to 41.
