Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign is reportedly in disarray following an exodus of campaign workers since the beginning of the year. Alleged reasons for the departures include excessive spending, disorganized and amateurish leadership, and an overall disconnect between the campaign and Kennedy’s values.
Mediaite reported on Wednesday that fourteen members of the Kennedy campaign have resigned since the start of January. The report details a series of claims made by anonymous sources within the organization. These allegations primarily concern the leadership of campaign manager Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, who is also Kennedy’s daughter-in-law, and communications director Del Bigtree. Sources in the campaign accuse them of being “self-serving” and making decisions based on their own gain.
The report documents several points of contention, such as sizeable payouts to campaign leadership when other members allegedly have to pay for things out-of-pocket. In particular, it highlights payments made to Bigtree’s consulting firm, among other LLCs, which received amounts upwards of tens of thousands of dollars. These figures, contrasted with a perceived lack of financial support for field staff and volunteers, have sparked accusations of financial mismanagement and hypocrisy regarding the campaign’s message.
In addition to frustration over campaign payouts, concerns about “lavish” spending have arisen due to claimed incidents like Del Bigtree’s participation in Zoom calls from upscale locations. Furthermore, Amaryllis Fox Kennedy’s decision to hire her nanny as chief of staff is cited as evidence of incompetence and a lack of professionalism within the campaign’s leadership structure.
Since the report’s publication, the Kennedy campaign responded to the allegations, with Amaryllis Fox Kennedy stating that Team Kennedy “has great folks come and go depending on the needs of each phase of the campaign,” and expressing the campaign’s well wishes for those who departed.
