Former United States Senator from Connecticut and No Labels Co-founder Joseph Lieberman died Wednesday evening. He was 82 years old.
According to news reports of Lieberman’s passing, he died from complications associated with a fall in his home.
Joseph Lieberman co-founded No Labels in 2010 with Nancy Jacobson. Until his passing, he served on its advisory board and frequently acted as a spokesperson in the media for the organization. Before that, he served four terms in the United States Senate from Connecticut, initially winning election as a member of the Democratic Party before later becoming an independent. In 2006, he ran successfully on his own “Connecticut for Lieberman” ballot line after narrowly losing the Democratic Party primary to Ned Lamont.
In addition to his time in the Senate, Lieberman was the Democratic vice-presidential nominee in 2000, becoming the first Jewish candidate to run on a major party ticket for Vice President of the United States. Additionally, he was considered as a potential option for Republican John McCain’s vice-presidential choice in 2008.
