Former Rep. Justin Amash Open to Consideration for Libertarian National Committee Chair Role

Former Michigan Congressman Justin Amash stated over the weekend that he is open to the possibility of serving as the next Chair of the Libertarian National Committee, following the recent resignation of two-term chair Angela McArdle.

“I’m open to the conversation, but I’d have to be convinced. Whoever is chair needs to be a bridge between all the factions,” Amash wrote on X on Saturday. His response came after a user suggested he run for the position in light of McArdle’s announcement earlier that morning. McArdle, who has served as the party’s chair since winning her first term at the 2022 Libertarian National Convention, announced that she would resign due to a new opportunity that would make it “impossible” for her to remain in the role.

Amash, first elected as a Republican to Michigan’s third congressional district in 2010, served five terms in the U.S. House of Representatives before stepping down in 2020. During his final term, Amash left the Republican Party to become an independent. He then later announced that he had joined the Libertarian Party, becoming its first and only sitting member of Congress to date.

After joining the Libertarian Party, Amash briefly explored a run for its presidential nomination in 2020 but ultimately decided against pursuing the candidacy. He was also later appointed to the Libertarian National Committee’s Ballot Access Advisory Committee. In early 2024, Amash rejoined the Republican Party and mounted an unsuccessful primary bid for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.

Since making the announcement, at least one member of the Libertarian National Committee has expressed interest in Amash’s offer. Paul Darr, who serves as the Region 3 South Representative, responded to Amash, stating “I am on the LNC please have someone contact me at [email protected] and I would be happy to facilitate a conversation.”

Yes, but the lnc won’t and shouldn’t reciprocate.

He can’t decide which party, if any, he belongs to. He can’t decide whether he wants to be in politics. He can’t hang on to a seat in congress as an incumbent. He can’t understand the plain language of the authors about their intent regarding birthright citizenship. He can’t resist the lure to side with lawfare, ridiculous impeachments, and other deep state dirty tricks. After floating a presidential campaign, he couldn’t attract enough support to even run for the nomination. So, naturally, he’s open to being the national party chairman.

I think Justin Amash would be a great Libertarian Party Committee Chair. I hope he will return to the party and help get it back on course and functioning better.

Yuck! While he would not be the absolute worst chair in the Libertarian Party’s history, that speaks less good of Amash than ill of the LP…

He is a statist creep. A totalitarian clown. A consistently anti-libertarian LINO. An unreliable and self-serving weasel. Anti-life and anti-family. Anti-Christian and antisemitic. Anti-scientific fact and anti-metaphysical truth.

He cannot and should never be trusted. So of course Darr “would be happy to facilitate a conversation” about inflicting his chairmanship upon the LP…

Hmm… Since former U.S. Rep. Amash has moved back to the GOP is he really the right guy? True he is very anti-Trump which is quite a contrast from the previous chair but just how committed is he to the LP?
