Former Libertarian State Chair to Seek New Hampshire Congressional Seat as Republican

Lily Tang Williams, a former 2024 Republican congressional nominee and past state chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado, announced this week that she will again run for New Hampshire’s Second Congressional District. It will be her third bid for the seat.

In a press release on Thursday announcing a 2026 bid, Williams described herself as “living the American dream,” referencing her personal story of immigrating to the U.S. and building a life through “freedom, opportunity, and hard work.” She called herself an “ideal congressional candidate for the people of the 2nd district” and said her goal is to “help bring forth a new renaissance to the country I love and serve with integrity, honesty and transparency.”

Williams was the Republican nominee for the district in 2024, winning the party’s primary with a plurality in a field of fourteen candidates. She lost the general election to Democrat Maggie Goodlander, receiving 47 percent of the vote. In 2022, she ran in the Republican primary for the same seat but did not advance to the general election.

During her 2024 campaign, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire also praised Williams on social media, referring to her as “one of the most famous libertarians in the world,” though the party never issued a formal endorsement. However, in a follow-up post, the party wrote, “If you’re so dedicated to the Libertarian Party that you’re upset that this amazing woman is winning now that she’s a Republican, we don’t want you.”

Prior to relocating to New Hampshire, Williams was active in Colorado politics, serving as chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado from 2015 to 2016. She ran as the Libertarian nominee for U.S. Senate in 2016 and for Colorado House District 44 in 2014. Williams has said that she moved from Colorado to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project, though she no longer considers herself an active member.

Local media outlets covering her current campaign have also noted her previous affiliation with the Libertarian Party.
