The Libertarian Party of Florida is inviting members to submit motions for consideration at its upcoming state convention. All motions must be submitted to party leadership at least 30 days before the event to allow for review.
Earlier this year, the state party announced that its 2025 convention will take place in Daytona Beach from June 6 to June 8. In addition to conducting typical annual business, the convention will also feature a shooting event, a comedy show, and a headline speech by former Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee Spike Cohen.
Party Chair Matt Johnson issued an invitation last week encouraging members to submit motions they wish to have considered on the convention floor no later than May 7. The party recommends that members who want to do so use a Google Doc format and submit their proposal directly to party leadership for review. Members also have the option to publicly post the full text of their proposals directly on the party website.
“Your voice matters. Whether you’re proposing a bylaws change, a policy initiative, or internal reform, this is your chance to help guide the future of the LPF,” Johnson wrote in the email.
According to details on the process, motions submitted by members who are not attending the convention as delegates may be ruled out of order. Submissions that are not formatted appropriately for a motion may also be rejected.
As of this article, the party has received at least two public submissions, though these proposals have not yet been formally approved. One proposal encourages local affiliates to partner with school districts to create “Libertarianism 101” courses geared toward adults and taught by affiliate members. Another suggests the national Libertarian Party should refrain from running a presidential candidate until it has at least five members in either chamber of Congress, with those funds typically used during presidential cycles helping identify specific districts.
