The Green Party of California will hold its General Assembly later this month in one of its two annual gatherings. Among other agenda items, delegates will consider endorsing Dr. Butch Ware as the party’s gubernatorial nominee for the 2026 election cycle.
The meeting will take place remotely via Zoom on June 15. The GPCA is asking that attendees make a small donation to cover costs, with registration details available on its website. Per party bylaws, the General Assembly is the GPCA’s highest decision-making body and meets twice a year. It is composed of delegates appointed by each active county affiliate recognized by the state organization.
According to a draft agenda, delegates will vote on whether to endorse Ware’s candidacy. Ware, who is expected to attend and deliver a presentation, announced his campaign last year. He previously ran as the Green Party’s 2024 vice presidential nominee and currently teaches at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His endorsement is being brought forward by the party’s Candidates Committee, which described his campaign as “unprecedented,” citing its stronger early fundraising effort and more active social media engagement than seen in past Green gubernatorial campaigns.
In addition to the endorsement vote, delegates will consider a proposal from the Coordinating Committee to confirm Jared Laiti as the party’s Liaison to the Secretary of State for the next two years. Laiti is the current liaison and was renominated by the committee.
The agenda also includes candidate presentations from members seeking seats on the Coordinating Committee and for the party’s national delegate and alternate delegate seats on the Green National Committee. The party has made no mention of any specific candidates. Filmmaker and climate activist Adam McKay is also scheduled to give a guest presentation.
