Libertarian National Committee to Fill Two At-Large Seats at Early August Meeting

The Libertarian National Committee will meet online early next month to fill at-large vacancies created by the resignations of Adrian F Malagon and Kathy Yeniscavich. The organization will accept open nominations for the two seats during the meeting.

Malagon and Yeniscavich announced their resignations from the organization and all subcommittees on the LNC’s public Business List in separate posts earlier this month. Yeniscavich published her resignation on July 15, stating that she had initially intended to leave the organization sooner but stayed on at the request of former Chair Angela McArdle. Malagon submitted his resignation the following day, harshly criticizing the LNC and calling it a “deeply unserious organization made up primarily of equally deeply unserious people.”

Just over two weeks prior, National Secretary Caryn Ann Harlos also resigned from the organization, citing dissatisfaction with current Chair Steven Nekhaila and urging the board to investigate Malagon for alleged inappropriate behavior. She has since been succeeded in the secretary role by Evan McMahon, chair of the Libertarian Party of Indiana.

The party is now preparing to fill the two at-large vacancies at a special meeting to be held remotely via Zoom and streamed on the party’s YouTube channel. The meeting is scheduled for August 3 and will begin at 7:00 p.m. EDT. No other business is scheduled for the meeting.

At-large candidates will each be allowed three minutes to speak and field questions from LNC members. The two seats will be filled in separate elections, with appointments deliberately taking effect the following day.

“Doing two separate elections seems to be much cleaner, with seats taking effect the following day so as to prevent the first appointee from being able to vote in the following election,” Chair Nekhaila wrote. “I believe this is fair and simple.”

Additionally, the Libertarian National Committee will meet again the following weekend, on August 10, for its regular quarterly meeting. It is currently accepting agenda item requests and report submissions through August 5.

I find it incredibly odd that the IT Committee didn’t set up Microsoft 365 with a more appropriate time zone. I’ve noticed that this has been a common thing for quite some time now:

I mean, and I ask this as a 20-year veteran in the tech industry, why is the time zone set at UTC/GMT when setting it to U.S. Eastern time (UTC-5 during Standard Time, UTC-4 during Daylight Savings Time)? That sounds like lack of technical oversight on the matter, or that they don’t care.
