Several More Libertarian Affiliates Adopt Cryptocurrency Resolution

Several additional state and local affiliates of the Libertarian Party have adopted a resolution urging the Trump administration to end what they describe as a federal “war on cryptocurrency” and to drop charges against individuals they say are being punished for innovation and voluntary exchange.

In a press release sent this week to Independent Political Report, the Libertarian Party of Illinois announced that it adopted the resolution during its July 8 meeting. In addition to Illinois, IPR has also learned that the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County, as well as the state affiliates in Maine and Tennessee, also adopted the resolution in recent weeks.

The Libertarian National Committee passed the same resolution earlier this month in a unanimous vote. Previous IPR coverage of the LNC’s adoption, including the full text of the resolution, is available here.

The resolution reaffirms each party’s commitment to digital privacy, decentralization, and free-market innovation, describing them as extensions of individual liberty in the modern era and as tools to empower individuals. It also denounces the previous Biden administration for continuing Operation Choke Point 2.0, a term used to describe alleged efforts by federal regulators to restrict access to financial services for cryptocurrency-related businesses, and praises President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance for pledging to end such practices.

In addition, the affiliates call on the administration to release Ian Freeman, a longtime New Hampshire libertarian activist sentenced in 2023 on federal charges related to cryptocurrency laundering, and to dismiss charges against Roman Storm, Roger Ver, and others involved in crypto development, stating that these individuals were exercising their “rights to innovate and engage in consensual transactions.”

Editorial note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County as the Libertarian Party of San Francisco.

There are so many other more pressing things that the party organizations should be focusing on – stuff that average voters would actually care about.
