The National Committee of the Green Party of the United States has voted to recognize the Israeli Defense Forces as a terrorist organization and is calling on international bodies to pursue accountability for what it describes as war crimes committed by the Israeli military.
In a November 10 statement, the party said its National Committee had formally adopted the measure over the previous weekend and included the full text of the proposal. The announcement followed a week-long voting period.
Voting on the resolution closed Sunday, with 78 delegates in favor, including representatives from the Green Party’s Youth, Women’s, Black, Latinx, and Lavender caucuses. Only one delegate from Wisconsin abstained, and none voted against the measure. The proposal required 40 votes to pass.
The motion asserts that the Israeli military has engaged in a “systematic use of state terror” against Palestinian and neighboring populations through military occupation, collective punishment, and violations of international law since its founding. It cites reports from international humanitarian organizations, as well as historical incidents such as the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre and later conflicts in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
In adopting the measure, the Green Party formally recognizes the Israeli Defense Forces as a terrorist organization and calls for the United States to end military aid to Israel under the Leahy Law, a federal statute prohibiting assistance to foreign security forces credibly accused of human-rights abuses. It also directs the party to coordinate follow-up solidarity campaigns through its International Committee.
The Green Party of the United States joins the Green Party of England and Wales, which adopted a similar measure on October 5 to label the IDF a terrorist organization and urge the British government to support an international legal case against Israel at the International Criminal Court. The U.S. party’s statement also references a June 2024 vote by the British organization as precedent, though Independent Political Report has been unable to verify details of that earlier motion.

Per Ilan Pappe, whom I’ve read, and probably nearly zero Zionists in the US have, the ethnic cleansing started even before the Nakba, even before the official partition.
Wow.
The Green Party goes bold and gets one right for a change.
