Libertarian Party of Chicago Completes Petition Drive for 2026 Primary Candidates

The Libertarian Party of Chicago announced this month the successful completion of its petition drive to place candidates on the ballot for the 2026 Cook County primary, with a slate of nine candidates set to appear.

In a November 10 press release shared through the Libertarian Party of Illinois, the organization reported that the drive began in early August and collected a total of 2,219 valid signatures from registered supporters across Cook County. According to the party, volunteers and community members gathered signatures through door-to-door canvassing, local events, and digital outreach efforts.

“I thank all the candidates, volunteers, and donors who were part of this great team. Without them, we would have fewer choices on the Cook County ballot going into the primary,” said Justin Tucker, chair of the Libertarian Party of Chicago. “I ask Cook County voters to pull a Libertarian ballot on March 17.”

Petitioning requirements for the Libertarian Party in Cook County were reduced earlier this year, easing the process for candidates seeking access to the 2026 primary ballot. At the time, a party representative noted that candidates for countywide office would need to submit only 622 valid signatures, with the exception of those for Board of Commissioners, which were a smaller number. The Libertarian Party has maintained primary ballot access in Cook County since 2020, qualifying in each subsequent cycle.

The petitions were submitted to the Cook County Board of Elections and were not challenged, meaning the candidates will appear on the primary ballot without issue. Candidates listed in the release include the following names and positions:
