The Libertarian Party of Ohio is accepting applications from members interested in serving as delegates to the 2026 Libertarian National Convention, with a February 10 deadline for those looking to formally join its delegation.
The party published details on the process following a January 21 meeting of the LPO Executive Committee, which convened remotely to name a delegation chair who will oversee the selection, communication, and replacement process, though the party has not publicly disclosed who the committee chose. The 2026 Libertarian National Convention will take place May 21–25 at the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
According to calculations released last December by the Libertarian National Committee factoring state presidential vote totals and total sustaining membership, Ohio is entitled to 41 delegates to the 2026 national convention, an increase of one seat compared to the 2024 convention. Under national bylaws, the state party is also eligible to seat up to 50 alternates due to the size of its delegation.
State party eligibility requirements stipulate that delegates be Ohio residents and either verified Supporting or Lifetime Members of the Libertarian Party of Ohio. A Supporting Member is defined as an Ohio resident who has affirmed the Libertarian Party’s non-aggression pledge, is registered to vote in Ohio, has not voted in another party’s most recent primary, and is current on annual dues. Applicants must also be members in good standing without unresolved disciplinary actions.
Party bylaws further outline the order in which delegate applications are reviewed. Under LPO Bylaw 500, priority is given first to the delegation chair and state party leadership, followed by candidates, county officers, and then other active party members. Out-of-state members are not eligible to represent Ohio without prior approval from the party’s Executive Committee.
Delegates are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel, lodging, meals, and related expenses. Applications submitted after February 10 will be considered only at the discretion of the delegation chair. The party is expected to release a finalized list of delegate names within 20 days of its final determination.
