The Vermont Progressive Party announced that it is assembling a slate of candidates for both Town Meeting Day and the 2026 general election, and will host a series of info sessions and in-person training events throughout this month in preparation.
In a December 30 statement, the party said it is actively recruiting candidates to run for school board, selectboard, and city council positions. It also stated that it is speaking with individuals interested in running for state representative, state senate, and other statewide offices in the November general election.
“Together, we have work to do to shape a Vermont that is affordable and accessible for working families, create solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and climate disasters, and truly grow a state where all people find community and connection,” the party said. “The time is now to continue to build our progressive movement.”
The party has set aside several days this month to focus on candidate preparations, with information sessions scheduled for January 5 and January 12. The sessions will focus on the Progressive Party’s endorsement process and party resources, important filing deadlines, and discussions surrounding campaign finance.
The party will then host candidate trainings on January 17 at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier and on January 31 at the Manchester Community Library in Manchester. Registration details for all four events are available through the Progressive Party website.
The Progressive Party and its candidates have until January 26 to file candidate petitions for local offices with municipal clerks. Town Meeting Day will take place March 3.
