Jessi Cowart Resigns from Libertarian National Committee as Region 3 South Alternate

Region 3 South Alternate Jessi Cowart announced her resignation from the Libertarian National Committee this week, saying she is stepping away after finalizing work on the committee’s 2026 budget and transferring her responsibilities to other members.

Cowart published her resignation in a March 3 thread on the LNC’s public Business List, writing that she originally decided to step down last December when she launched a campaign for Texas’ 15th House District as a Libertarian candidate. At the time, Cowart said she informed several members that she intended to remain in her role long enough to help finalize the 2026 budget ahead of the LNC’s December meeting.

She also needed time to pass along pertinent knowledge to other members she was involved with on party subcommittes. “Having now done a warm handoff with the Financial Standards Committee (FSC), I now feel that it’s time for me to formally resign from the LNC, including my positions on the FSC and EPCC,” Cowart wrote.

Cowart wished her fellow members well and said she expects to see them in Grand Rapids for the Libertarian Party’s upcoming national convention. Her resignation will take effect immediately.

Cowart was first selected as the Region 3 South alternate in February 2025 following the resignation of Keith Thompson, who had been elevated to the region’s representative seat after an earlier vacancy. Region 3 includes the party’s state affiliates in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas. Regional state chairs will name her replacement.

In addition to serving on the LNC, Cowart was a member of the Financial Standards Committee and the Employment Policy and Compensation Committee. She is also vice chair of the Libertarian Party of Texas and chairs the party’s Montgomery County affiliate.

Andy: Definitely. I was revisiting the number of resignations which have occured since 2022 and you’re looking at *easily* half dozen between full members and alternates.
