Wisconsin Libertarians Condemn National Committee Alternate Bryce Thon

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin has moved to publicly distance itself from Region 1 alternate Bryce Thon, adopting a resolution condemning statements attributed to him and declining to support him for national party or committee roles.

The resolution, republished by Third Party Watch, was approved Sunday by the state party’s executive committee in a 7–3 vote with two abstentions. It points to statements attributed to Bryce Thon and to the So To Speak Caucus, a group he founded that describes itself as “openly exclusionary” and aligned with the ideas of Hans-Hermann Hoppe.

In the resolution, the party points to a series of posts, including calls to repeal the 19th Amendment, restrict immigration on racial grounds, and remove large numbers of people from the country. The state party argues such positions run counter to its platform and the broader libertarian focus on individual rights and non-aggression.

While the measure stops short of calling for Thon’s removal from the Libertarian National Committee, it states that it will not support him for any national position or committee role and that his views do not reflect the Wisconsin affiliate. Thon is one of Wisconsin’s two alternates to the national committee and was named to the role in March.
