The New Hampshire Communist Party will host an outreach event in Manchester early next month, giving the public an opportunity to meet with members of the party and get involved in its organizing activities.
The event, titled “Coffee with a Communist,” will take place on June 5 at 5:00p ET at the Honey Cup Cafe & Tearoom in Manchester. Event details shared by the party show the gathering is timed with Pride Month and is intended to give local residents a chance to connect with members of the New Hampshire Communist Party and the New Hampshire Young Communist League.
The upcoming event is one of a number of in-person outreach events organized by the New Hampshire Communist Party since the beginning of the year. In March, the organization promoted a similar coffee shop gathering as a way for residents to engage with the party and discuss community needs. The party has also been hosting regular book clubs through its Young Communist League and participating in local rallies, including a recent event opposing the ongoing military conflict in Iran.
The New Hampshire Communist Party presents itself as the state affiliate club of the Communist Party USA, though the national party’s public chapter list does not currently include contact information for the New Hampshire organization. The group is also not recognized as a political party by the state and is not currently ballot-qualified. To become a recognized political party under New Hampshire law, it would need to field a candidate for governor or U.S. Senate who receives at least 4 percent of the vote.
Even without recognized party status, the organization has still involved itself in local protests and gatherings as well as maintained an online presence in different forms for several years. A Southern New Hampshire-specific CPUSA club first appeared online in 2022, while the current New Hampshire Communist Party accounts appear to date back to late 2024.
The New Hampshire group is also part of the Congress of Workers’ Organizations NH, a coalition of working-class political parties and organizations that includes both party and non-party groups. According to the coalition’s website, its constituent groups include the Socialist Party USA of Southern New Hampshire, General Strike New Hampshire, the Ishtar Collective, and the Independent Collective Caucus. The coalition also lists ties to the Upper Valley regional chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.
