Patrick Mitchell Resigns as Libertarian National Committee Assistant Treasurer

Patrick Mitchell has resigned as assistant treasurer of the Libertarian National Committee after serving more than two years in the position, according to correspondence shared with national committee members this week.

LNC Chair Evan McMahon announced Mitchell’s departure Tuesday on the committee’s public Business List, including a forwarded email from Mitchell. According to the email, he officially resigned from the role effective September 28. Mitchell did not give a reason for leaving, instead thanking McMahon and Treasurer Doug Knebel for the opportunity to serve and wishing the party continued success.

“Serving in this role has been a valuable experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the party’s mission and work alongside such dedicated individuals,” Mitchell stated. “I appreciate the trust that was placed in me and the relationships I have built during my time in this position.”

Mitchell initially sought the treasurer position at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention. He finished second to Bill Redpath, who won in the first round, with Redpath receiving 510 votes to Mitchell’s 330. Allison Spink received another 44 votes.

He was then elected to the assistant treasurer position the following month, defeating Chris Minoletti in a vote of the Libertarian National Committee. He received 13 votes to Minoletti’s four. Mitchell remained in the assistant role through the party’s 2026 convention and continued assisting with financial reporting under Knebel, who became treasurer earlier this year.

The assistant treasurer is a position required under Libertarian Party bylaws and can temporarily assume the treasurer’s duties if the treasurer becomes unavailable, incapacitated, or leaves office. Federal law does not allow a political committee to accept contributions or make expenditures without someone serving as treasurer.

The LNC has not yet announced when it will vote to designate Mitchell’s successor as assistant treasurer.
