Veterans Home. It is a community of veteran residents and there are no facilities for psychiatric patients.”
“The staff at the Barstow home tried
to work with Mr. Lake so that he could stay in the home. The conduct violations continued, and still he was not discharged. They took another 60 days to try to find him a facility that could help him.
However, there were more conduct violations, he refused to seek the psychiatric help he needed and the Department finally had to go to court to force him from the Barstow Veterans Home. Mr. Lake appealed the decision, but it was upheld on appeal. Mr. Jackson called on Tom Arnold, Administrator of the Veterans Home.
Mr. Arnold testified he had interviewed Mr. Lake in November 2000. Mr. Lake told Mr. Arnold that the staff at Barstow had been out to get him and were “railroading” him out of the home. He said all charges against him were fabricated and there was no basis for the conduct violations he received.
There had been an incident at a meeting of the California Veterans Board in calendar year 2000 where he wrapped toilet paper around his head. When asked his purpose in doing that, he claimed it was an expensive means of head protection.
Mr. Arnold said Mr. Lake had also made a number of threatening telephone calls to members of his staff at the Chula Vista home. Mr. Arnold read his letter to Mr. Lake denying him entry into the Veterans Home at Chula Vista based upon records and interviews and a determination that the care necessary for Mr. Lake is not available at the Chula Vista facility.
Mr. Jackson called on Karen Carter, a Psychiatric Social Worker and the Veterans Home in Chula Vista. She testified she had a Master’s Degree in Social Work.
She sat in on a meeting with Mr. Arnold and Mr. Lake as an observer. She described Mr. Lake’s demeanor during the meeting. She said he was very agitated, demonstrated anger verbally and through arm gestures, and denied having any responsibility for any of the problems reported by the Barstow Veterans Home.
She said Mr. Lake appeared to be delusional and paranoid individual who externalizes problems by placing blame on others.”

Having spent a much more prolonged time with her in many different discussions and forums over the weekend I can now say that I was not only correct regarding my observations relative to your complaints but by minimally an order of magnitude so. Chelene Nightingale is truly a wonderful woman of marvelous courage, intelligence, integrity, and guts. By the way, while Trent’s opinion outranks mine, I would not be in favor of ranking a party that is not recognized in the vast majority of states as a separate category.
The Independence Party of Minnesota and/or New York doesn’t get a category either, for instance.
I don’t know who made such a promise, and I have never seen it or heard of it before.
America’s Independent Party is far from being the third largest party in the US.
The Constitution Party was never the third largest party, and the AIP is not the third largest party. Neither was on the ballot in more states, or received more votes, or has more active affiliates, or has more elected officials or dues paying members or money than, say, the Libertarian Party. The Constitution Party comes closest from among the right wing parties,as the Greens do on the left. Having a lot of voters, most of whom think they are registering non-partisan — I had extensive first hand experience with this in CA — register with your party, but for the most part not vote for it (much less actively participate), is not a good measure of party strength.
Trent used to be with the CP, but has been a Republican for about two years now. I never claimed he is impartial, but he is in fact no longer affiliated with any alternative party.
Actually, the article does have a byline (Red Phillips), but it is only visible from the IPR index page, not the article page. I’ve told Trent how to fix that, but I can’t do it without server access, which I don’t have.
Trent has to approve new writers. There is in fact editorial oversight, but it’s not pre-publication. In other words writers do not have to have their articles approved by an editor before they appear, but the editor can tell them to make changes, make changes himself, or in extreme cases pull the articles completely afterwards.
If Trent thinks you should be allowed to be a writer here, you can be a writer here.
There is no pay involved, either to write here or to be published.
So how do I become a writer for this site so it can have some REAL balance?! Is the pay what the value of some of these “articles” is, zero, or does one even have to pay for the privilege to contribute, which would fit some whose value is negative!

However I still do not understand how your site works. I see all the comments labeled with the names or monikers of their contributors, but this thread at least in the article that initiates it does not appear to have a byline. Did I just miss it? Is it hiding in some corner I passed over? Or is the article contributed as a seed of conversation by the staff perhaps? Or is there a privileged class that does not have to identify its contributions called “writers?”
Can anyone become a writer? If not, I must say I do not see how there is any prospect of balance even it the site is a headless horseman that has no editorial oversight.

Two further things though, before you are off the hook. Trent Hill is not with a major party. He is with a Southern state affiliate of the Constitution Party. I have reason to know this, because he put up a Group on Facebook claiming to be the American Independent Party’s, I have heard some very uncomplimentary descriptions of Mr. Hill from both Constitution Party and America’s Independent Party sources, none of which bear the slightest resemblance to the impartial paragon at which you hint!
I had to complain to Facebook about the fraud Mr. Hill was perpetrating on their users-successfully it turns out. The American Independent Party will vigorously defend its name against abuse and unauthorized use wherever we find it.
In fact, that is what I and my Vice Chairman, Mark Seidenberg have been doing with our weekend monitoring the most egregious example of such an abuse–an event and an organization misrepresented as being legitimately connected with the American Independent Party or even to be the American Independent Party’s governing body, its State Central Committee.
The second bone I have to pick with you is the failure to honor a promise to put America’s Independent Party (of which I am the Vice Chairman) on your alphabetical order list with its very own tag as befits the third largest party in the United States.
The Constitution Party does not deserve the label the largest third party or the third largest party anymore. They are in denial about it still. They were instantly displaced from that position when the America’s Independent Party was formed, and fell to what lowly rank among the “minor right wing parties” I really do not know. The American Independent Party was responsible for that by depriving them of 85% of their registration at one blow.
If we were to have equal treatment to what is accorded the Constitution Party (at least as it was, not as it is), you would in fact have to give them the same haughty mistreatment you give the Party that you erroneously say Alan Keyes formed–namely America’s Independent Party and relegate it to the status of Minor Right Wing Party.
But I do not advocate that. Instead, leave them there with the fine name that their current national leadership at least does not deserve, second in alphabetical order to America’s Independent Party.

Individual writers post their own articles. There is no pre-approval from site management. In rare cases, articles are pulled (or more frequently changed) in response to criticism.
The writers here span a range of opinions, including Greens, ex-Greens, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, and at least a couple of major party supporters who favor more inclusion for smaller parties in the political process. The editor of this site, Trent Hill, is in that category.
IPR is not a Libertarian site, although a lot of the people who comment here are Libertarians. The editor of this site is not a Libertarian. Neither is the author of this post, Red Phillips. Thus, your claim is logically impossible.
This site is in fact independent. We are not affiliated with any party – or for that matter, any ideology. The only thing we have in common is support for a more diverse political debate/process.
The headline of this thread is not neutral. It accepts the legitimacy of the rump group without facts, logic or law on its side. This site is biased against the legitimate AIP.

Regarding the comments about Don Grundman’s personal life, noone in the movement against the abomination of gay marriage ever said that every person has to get married. Some people are just never able to meet the right person and don’t want to settle for someone who is not good enough for them and will probably just divorce them anyway, causing them a lifetime of pain. As long as one is not engaged in sexual perversion and is spending their lives fighting for the cause of good, that is all that matters.

Thanks Don Grundman for sending me in the right direction regarding the correct faction of the American Inddependent Party to join. I was a communist until last year, and a strong supporter of homosexuality and all manner of abominable actions. I was raised by my parents to be this way; they got divorced when I was a child. My father attends protests supporting illegal immigration and my mother attends Planned Parenthood rallies regularly. I was a libertarian for a few days but then went back to communism a couple years ago. But then I saw the light and became saved by Jesus last year, at the age of 21. My pastor was a Republican, so I became a Republican for a few months, but then I realized that the Republican Party is so corrupt that it has lost all connection to Christian and American values, and is constantly trying to get us involved in foreign interventions. So I found the American Independent Party, but unfortunately my friend who introduced me to it is in the Alan Keyes corruption faction. I have just left that faction, thank God. I am glad that now finally, after reading your blog, I have found the true American conservative movement, and I am definitely planning to join my county’s faction of the American Independent Party that belongs to the Constitution Party, and I will work tirelessly for the great honorable candidate Chelene Nightingale. I just wanted to tell this story to let Don Grundman and everyone else know that there are many young people who are tired of the way society is going, and even people who you think may be beyond help, may be able to see the light.

At that meeting I was elected Chairman of the Committee. Mr. Lake is referring to an old thread from over a year ago, which I did not post, which refers to Ms. Nightingale as the director of some anti-migration rights group falsely named “Save Our State.” Mr. Lake believes that, since Ms. Nightingale is no longer the director of this groups (this may be in dispute — apparently she may still head an organization which claims to be the “real” Save or State?) – it is our job to go back and “correct” information which was true at the time. He thinks that the outdated information swayed the actual vote in the primary (!). He also thinks that this old thread is heavily read, although in point of fact, the comments that were posted on it this year came from a very small handful of IP addresses, some of them using numerous posting handles.
I have no idea why Mr. Lake thinks my name needs scare quotes. Paul is my actual name. Paulie is a commonly used variation of Paul in the area I grew up.

As far as I know, no one has been banished. Cody resigned voluntarily in light of a lawsuit by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for copying their articles. The lawsuit was settled out of court.

I am not endorsing keyes. What I’m pointing out is that so many are hanging their hopes upon Nightingales candidacy, if not nearly declaring her a saint. Foley or Rangel are not, nor were they ever in a position to be seen as leaders of the party. Keyes would not be a serious contender for president, but I believe he would not have become enough of a noticable factor that having ran would be harmful. In contrast, Chelene is making a spectacle of herself, and the party. The damage is likely to be considerable if she does get real air time and exposure to the mainstream. Let’s face it; AIP or CP have not been attracting executive timber. I know people had a little faith in Baldwin if you pardon the pun, but his religious bent limited any real chance of appealing to a wide audience. Chelene is far worse, lacking ANY credibility or credential. Thus far, her exposure to scrutiny has been cautiously controlled, if not outright prohibited. Just read an article where the writer wrote “Chelene Nightingale is a candidate for Therapy, not governor” and he then explained why he would not endorse her. The truth is out there.
Davi, just for the sake of the argument, let’s concede that everything you say about Nightingale is true. (I’m not so don’t throw stones. This is just for the sake of the argument.) It would not follow from that that the CP faction of the AIP is entirely corrupt. Is the Democrat party entirely corrupt because of Charles Rangel? The Republicans entirely corrupt because of Mark Foley? Even more so, it does not follow that ALL the virtue resides with the Keyes faction side and ALL the dishonor resides with the CP faction side. This is child-like black and white thinking. If you don’t like Nightingale then don’t support her. But why throw your support entirely behind the Keyes faction? It should at least be incumbent upon them to explain to you why their faction is better on the issues. I’m not convinced they are capable of doing so. They have yet to prove me wrong.

Prior to the Convention the Chairman of the Mississippi CP stated that if Keyes was the nominee he would work to keep him off the ballot in MS. But that was clearly about Keyes’ positions on the issues. Whatever one thinks of the NV IAP flap, that was clearly about substantive policy issues. But this CA AIP fiasco is not so clearly about policy. It seems to be about personalities and egos.

I’ll clear up one thing:
Nightingale was not convicted of fraud over her BK. However, that’s is likely the next step if she doesn’t pay the man she borrowed money from, and doesn’t stop evading the debt. Her tactic of opposing the action and appealing the decision goes to the heart of her credibility and dishonesty. I don’t believe the statute of Limitations has expired for him to sue for fraud.

It is my personal belief that party politics cannot be squared away between factions when the candidates themselves who would be the end beneficiary of ceasing hostilities are thoroughly corrupt, lying scheming, posers. In my case, Nightingale coincides with many, but certainly not all of my causes. Where she departs might be amended through honest deliberations during party support conventions or similar. But, I’ve seen that it is irrelevant whether she agrees or signs a pledge. She’s a liar, and completely dishonest. Whatever pledge she makes is just shallow coersion. A party with such a corrupt candidate will be worse off than one with a somewhat defective platform. the people backing nightingale feel that the party will take a massive jump to noteriety under nightingales candidacy, after having sat in the relative sidelines for decades. Although this may be true, the end result will be the embarrassment of the party itself when her chicanery, ignorance, and wreckless abandon are proven in practice. To wit, all third parties will share in that embarrassment, and US voters will turn farther away from them. Now I don’t know that much about keyes, having no personal interaction with him. Red – The forces behind Keyes have attacked the CP via the AIP because they want to keep an interventionist foreign policy of our nation. If enough voters grow disgruntled with the Republicans they could concievably go to the CP but not if the CP message is the same as the GOP. Hence the CP had to be destroyed and replaced by Keyes AIP’s which has the same pro-U.N. & pro-war policy as the GOP. Therefore disgruntled GOP members have nowhere to go and will stay with the CP.
After the Reform Party via Perot hurt the GOP they sent in moles, inclusive of Mark Seidenberg to destroy it from within. With that mission accomplished they then turned to their next potential enemy of the CP and decided to strangle it in the cradle. The method for this was to have Keyes California lieutenants ( Robinson, Seidenberg, and Noonan ) file fake papers with the SOS office. Then Keyes could claim clean hands and continue being a mole within the conservative movement working for its destruction; which he does to this day.
Lastly the controllers/handlers of Keyes not only work to control our foreign policy but also our domestic policy in order to destroy our culture and hence resistance to their control and corruption. Notice how Lake comes to the defense of homosexual perversion. The forces behind Keyes such as the ADL but also the SPLC are the prime funders and promoters of school programs throughout our nation which are designed to promote homosexuality as early as kindergarten. The practical result of their attack is that my own ELEMENTARY school now has a ” Gay-Straight-BiSexual-Transgender-Queer club. Such promotion of homosexuality is designed to destroy the children of our nation and Lake is an open defender of it. That is why he was promoted to the AIP State Central Committee by the Robinson rats; as an open declaration of how they intend to destroy the Christian foundations of the party in service to their ADL/SPLC masters/controllers.
This is the practical results of treason to the nation.

Second, I am neither a Republican nor technically/officially a Constitution Party member. I have officially been a Constitution Party member in the past and participated in the 2008 nominating convention. I’m not asking for an in-depth critique of the CP platform which is a sausage making mess. The leaders of the Keyes faction left the Kansas City Convention in a snit because their guy lost the nomination and proceeded to hijack the party in what seems to me an act of pure spite. Prove to me it was not an act of spite. Was Keyes such a potentially compelling candidate that to pass him over was an unforgivable slight? Were they so committed to interventionism and remaining in the UN and dolling out foreign aid to Israel, etc. that they couldn’t tolerate staying in a party that thought otherwise? Make the case. The CA AIP should be affiliated with Keyes’ America’s Independent Party because it is superior because … It really shouldn’t be that hard. Is the Keyes faction really so invested in maintaining our interventionist foreign policy that they couldn’t countenance remaining in a party that had non-interventionist Chuck Baldwin on the ticket? Red Phillips – You will not get any announcements or releases from the Keyes corruption faction of the party since they have nothing positive to say nor do they do anything positive. Their entire focus is to kill the AIP by inaction; letting it sit as part of their comprehensive strategy to destroy the 3rd party conservative movement minimally, and the entire conservative movement maximally. They build nothing and can build nothing since they are founded on corruption and lying. Their only actions are to tear down. It will be the REAL AIP, the non-corruption faction of the party led by Chairman Jim King, that will carry the conservative message to the citizens of the state.
