Judge Roy Moore announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee on an Iowa radio station yesterday.
Although he doesn’t actually say this, I assume he is considering seeking the Republican nomination since he announced it in Iowa and has made several recent trips to Iowa. I post this here at IPR because Roy Moore is often mentioned as a potential Constitution Party nominee. Whether this makes a Constitution Party bid more or less likely, I do not know. I could see it either way.

and he is worse than Pastor Chuckie? Every one (cept maybe Cody Quirk) is imperfect and has flaws.
But Baldwin has proven him self to be a poster boy for ‘Room Temperature IQ’ time and time again.
This money grubbing ‘Christain Patriot’ is always looking for a buck and can not keep his (or the nation’s) history straight.
His public spanking on the ‘grand AMERICAN heroes of MEXICO’s repulse of ‘Tejan Squatters’ in San Antonio on this very site ………
And Quirkie Quirk Boy delights in the re – affiliation of Montana’s state CP with national. Great, if that is best thing for Montana, go fer it.
But a review of the FACTS show that the CP has had basic problems, like truth, honesty, and getting their ducks lined up for over a decade. And where ever Chuckie goes: descent and fall off are sure to follow [like the Coastal South].
……….. I’m jus sayin ………….
Red,
Maybe. But, being able to stand in nationally televised debates means that more people see his name first.
Timothy Yung and Chritian B summed up his other flaws- he’s a crappy campaigner.
Chuck Baldwin would do a better job getting his message out when compared to Moore. Plus if Moore decides to suddenly go CP at the last minute, that would not look good to CP’ers, especially since he’s turned down that offer so many times before.
I concur with Red. The CP will never amount to anything if it is just perceived as the minor leagues for the GOP. Plus, that “special relationship” makes it impossible to overcome the wasted vote syndrome.
Trent, I suspect you are right, and citizen 1, I suspect it is true that some in the CP think this is a good strategy, but I think it is a counterproductive strategy. It diminishes the candidate to run in the GOP primary and do poorly then jump ship, and it maked the CP nominee look like an also ran.
I suspect he’ll run Republican–and when he scores badly in Iowa or New Hampshire, he’ll switch to the CP.
Moore should seek the Republican nomination. Howard Phillips said that candidate that wanted to seek the Constitution Party nomination in ’08 should first seek the Republican nomination to build their media profile. When they announce for the Constitution Party they will not receive as much coverage. Also if Moore is too friendly with Peroutka he will not run with the Constitution Party. Just running with the Constitution Party will show that he is not controlled by Peroutka.
Cody, please elaborate. I actually think Moore should seek the CP nomination instead of the Republican nomination.
Well Moore is running as a Republican and Peroutka isn’t the only cited factor on why he won’t be the CP candidate.
“He’s also too friendly with Peroutka- the CP won’t support him now, that’s for sure.”
Cody, I think you are projecting. I think he could secure the CP nomination without much problem unless there happens to be another “big name” running.
And for what its worth, John Lofton is being very critical of Moore on Facebook.
Red,
He is running in the GOP.

Too bad. I guess his 15 minutes of fame are over.
To Mr. Yung,
I live in Alabama and I can tell you that while part of the description you give is correct (that he skipped debates, etc) it is not the reason he lost the primary. He was only leading in the polls early because of name recognition. He is simply too divisive a figure and too weak a ground campaigner (as others have mentioned). While much of the rest of the GOP primaries throughout the country seemed to go for more ‘divisive’ politicians like Sharon Angle, Christine O’Donnell and many more, Alabama saw a thorough trouncing of these type of candidates in the primary in 2010.
Everyone here is pretty perplexed by his GOP presidential run as it will assuredly go absoultely nowhere and only damage his credibility. It was assumed that if he ever ran for President it would be as a Constitution Party or other conservative 3rd Party. He has steadily become more and more of a non-entity down here due to his seeming arrogance and lack of depth on issues outside his milieu. There is some speculation that he has simply become a perennial candidate type who makes his living that way.
He would also be my 3rd choice behind Dr. Paul and Governor Johnson as a Republican. He seems to be anti-war in the Pat Buchanan mold. Unfortunately, I doubt he’ll focus on that. I don’t see his Republican campaign going anywhere, unless he is using it to set up a Constitution Party run then make a big show about how Republicans “betrayed” conservatives when they nominate Romney.
I have also heard that he is not the best on the ground campaigner. I also heard that he was poorly advised. This from people in Alabama.
I like Roy Moore a lot and I would vote for him if Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, or Rand Paul don’t run. However I heard several negatives about Roy Moore that he must address. One of the complaints was that Roy Moore was leading in the Alabama primary but he lost because he skipped several of the debates and ran a lazy campaign. He would make speeches in front of his supporters to raise money but he would not try to persuade other people. In order words he was relying solely on the fact that he was the 10 Commandments Judge to win. However if someone in Alabama can confirm or refute this story that would be great. Roy Moore for Supreme Court Justice but not president!
