And thanks to the SoS of CA, who fails to understand their own election laws, there is really no way for the activists who make up a majority of the party to take back control.

  2. NewFederalist August 11, 2012

Well… that effectively ends Goode as a serious alternative.

  3. Gene Berkman August 11, 2012

Tom Hoefling is National Chair of America’s Party, which was founded by Alan Keyes in 2008 after he failed to win The Constitution Party nomination.

Dave @ 14 – many of the leading activists in The American Independent Party support The Constitution Party, with which the AIP was affiliated from 1992 (as Taxpayers Party) til 2008.

It is commonly believed that supporters of Alan Keyes hijacked the AIP in 2008. It appears the hijackers have retained some control. With only 8 delegates attending the state convention, Keyes supporters might have control of a political corpse.

    From link above

“The American Independent Party (AIP) has nominated Tom Hoefling for President at their state convention this weekend. The AIP is on the ballot in California.

Only 8 delegates were present. A majority of votes cast were proxies controlled by Markham Robinson.”

  5. NewFederalist August 11, 2012

Any word on the AIP presidential nominee yet?

  6. NewFederalist August 11, 2012

    Oh well, I tried!

Dave @14… if they could they would.

Dave: The CP should get their own ballot line and not work on this hijacking.

Every third party candidate “hijacks” other ballot lines if they can.

Gary Johnson “hijacked” the Americans Elect Party line in Oklahoma.

In 2008, Ralph Nadar “hijacked” the Peace & Freedom Party line in CA.

I’d love to get some first hand reporting abt this meeting. A mtg of the “National Executive Committee” sounds interesting. I know the AIP, like the P&FP, have been talking abt building a national party this year.

And what is Mr. Keyes relation to the AIP at this point?

  11. Dave August 10, 2012

The CP should get their own ballot line and not work on this hijacking.

  12. RedPhillips August 10, 2012

Kevin is correct. My “inside souces” have confirmed that Virgil Goode will be there.

  13. Q August 10, 2012

    What are his chances?

  14. kevin August 10, 2012

    Virgil Goode will attend it.

  15. Trent Hill August 10, 2012

Red–mostly, it boiled down to the Keyes/Baldwin fight, but also to some interpersonal disputes.

“Alaska CP and AIP did part ways.”

I believe this parting amounted to a dispute between a couple of people. AIP was never officially a CP affiliate but did put the CP nominee on the ballot a couple of times. Some AIP leadership (? if more than one person) had a dispute with the main AIP leadership and left and formed the Alaska CP.

  17. paulie August 9, 2012

    Answered 2 in open thread.
    Dunno bout Goode.

Alaska CP and AIP did part ways.

  18. R. D. Holland August 9, 2012

Any answers to #2 or #3?

  19. Gene Berkman August 9, 2012

They probably have to meet in an abandoned restaurant. Since so many people have cell phones now, there are not any phone booths left for them to hold their meeting in.

  20. paulie August 9, 2012

Are they meeting in an empty building? Is this now a new restaurant?

LOL at the idea of them jimmying open the door at an abandoned Denny’s.

  21. bruuno August 9, 2012

Reform Party Convention is this weekend too. Any word on what the Alaskan Independence Party is up to? I see there is a Constitution Party in AK now too. Does that mean they have had a parting of the ways?

  22. RedPhillips Post author | August 9, 2012

Do we know anyone who is going to be there? I would really like updates. Is Virgil Goode going to be there? Will his name be placed in nomination?

  23. RedPhillips Post author | August 9, 2012

Note the name of the room.
