US News and World Report: 3rd Parties Reject Sarah Palin as Candidate

In its “Washington Whispers” column, US News and World Report contacted a number of third parties to get their reaction to Sarah Palin’s remarks that she may leave the GOP to run for US Senate. The Reform Party chairman noted that his organization “would probably have zero interest in Sarah Palin,” while the Libertarian Party stated the former Alaska Governor “runs afoul of the Libertarian Party’s goals and most Libertarians’ views.” The magazine was not able to reach the Constitution Party in time for the story, although the party did send the following statement:

Sarah Palin as a Third Party Candidate

If She Bolts the GOP, Where Can She Go?

Governor Sarah Palin is a politician who has raised questions about her party and some issues that merit attention. The Constitution Party is in fact in agreement with some of her positions (such as the right-to-life), but her specific views on a number of key issues put her at odds with our party platform. Governor Palin’s strong support of military incursions in Afghanistan, the invasion of Iraq, and her hawkish views in defense of Israel do not mesh with the Constitution Party’s platform:

“Since World War II, the United States has been involved in tragic, unconstitutional, undeclared wars [that] were the direct and foreseeable result of the bi-partisan interventionist policy of both Democrat and Republican administrations. … We call upon the Congress to immediately terminate American military presence in all foreign countries where such U.S. presence constitutes an invitation for this nation to become involved in, or further participate in, foreign wars.”

Governor Palin has voiced her support for closer economic ties with Communist China, opposing tariffs that would protect American workers from cheap foreign imports. Our platform states,

“Tariffs are not only a constitutional source of revenue, but, wisely administered, are an aid to preservation of the national economy. … the United States government has engaged in a free trade policy which has … undercut the wages of our working men and women, and totally destroyed or shipped abroad the jobs of hundreds of thousands of workers.”

In sum, while we sympathize with the disagreements Governor Palin has with the elitists who control the Republican Party, her candidacy would not have our support. The Constitution Party is the only party that lives up to its name: we use the Constitution as a yardstick to measure candidates and their platforms. In our opinion, Governor Palin is not a constitutionalist. If she leaves the GOP, the Constitution Party is not an option for her political ambitions.

    Highest paid? Unlikely.

  2. Brandt Hardin July 15, 2013

Tease away Sarah… what a political peep show! Since she quit her post in Alaska, Palin hasn’t run for public office but still plays the part of politician who calls her constituents “fans.” What exactly does she do other than essentially proposition her self and image to the highest bidder? Sounds like Sarah is America’s highest paid escort! See how down and dirty she’ll get for the money at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/06/ecstasy-of-sarah-palin_15.html

“Mark Seidenberg” is the best parody I have read in a long time. This shit is hilarious. MOAR SEIDENBERG!

  4. Cody Quirk July 14, 2013

Just a heads up Mark, I think Mr. Palin is Caucasian and not a Eskimo

  5. Mark Seidenberg July 13, 2013

    Cody Quirk

We need an Eskimo running for POTUS on the
ticket in 2016. If not Todd Palin who do you
    suggest that is Eskimo?

  6. Cody Quirk July 13, 2013

Another thing, Mark, if Todd isn’t running for President at all in 2016, then there’s no point in entering his name in the AIP primary then.

In 2006, Sarah was running for Governor of Alaska against Frank for Governor. I went up
to Alaska to work in her campaign. I met with
Sarah several time. I just had talked with Todd
on issues. Sarah needed to “work the room”
at campaign event, while Todd had the time to
    talk politics with me.

  8. William Saturn July 13, 2013

    Seidenberg says:
“In 2006 I showed Todd Palin the American Independent Party platform. He read it and told
me he agreed with it…at that meeting in
    Anchorage, Alaska.”

You provide only one example of a meeting with Todd Palin, yet you refer to yourself as a “good friend” of the Palins. Have you met with him more than once? Have you even met Sarah Palin?

  9. DarthJ July 13, 2013

Well, it would be good for an attention-getter, but I would only let her in if she recanted those views.

“at one point” was 13 years ago – for a couple of months. Politically he’s followed in his wife’s footsteps. Maybe he’ll now want to work with you. It could happen …

Todd Palin was “presidential timber” in 2012,
because he read not any third party platform
he read the platform of “American Independent
Party of California” and agreed with it.

Peter Gemma please get a reality check. The American Independent Party of California formed in 1967. It has been Ballot Qualified
since 1968. It has about 477 thousand electors
in California. On the other hand the Constitution
Party in California now has under 300 electors
with a high point of 304 on February 10, 2013.

Dr. Grundmann has ended the entity of the “Constitution Party of California” when he
changed its name to the “Constitution Party”.

It looks like at the end of 2014, there will only be three qualified political parties in California, because the Libertarian, Green, Americans Elect, and Peace & Freedom Party will not have the
required numbers of electors to be ballot qualified.

Do you think the Constitution Party will get qualified by the end of 2014 with Don Grundmann as its head in California?

Your claimed that Todd Palin was a Republican.
That is news to me. He was registered as Alaska
    Independance Party at one point.

  12. Peter Gemma Post author | July 13, 2013

er, Todd Palin is presidential timber because (a) he’s married to a former Governor or (b) he supposedly read a third party platform once and said he liked it [but remains a Republican] or (c) __________

  13. Jimmy July 12, 2013

Sarah Palin could run as an independent.

  14. George Phillies July 12, 2013

For the curious, the historical issue was that Romney’s parents had emigrated to Mexico, where he was born, and (long article in National Review at the time the issue was significant) the 1795 modifications and legislative history to the 1790 immigration and naturalization act, these sections still supposedly being applicable, had what were claimed to be particular implications. Your mileage on the article may vary. My mileage notes that I have absolutely no difficulty falling asleep without print or chemical assistance.

  15. William Saturn July 12, 2013

The fact that Seidenberg did not respond to my question makes me think that Seidenberg has only limited contact with Todd Palin and/or that Todd Palin has no interest in running for president.

  16. Thomas L. Knapp July 12, 2013

    MS @ 15,

Your opinions as to the validity of Mitt Romney’s grandparents’ marriage may be something that you find interesting — but they have precisely zero bearing on whether or not Romney is a natural-born US citizen.

  17. Cody Quirk July 12, 2013

That’s nice Mark, but if he’s actively involved with the GOP, and especially supporting GOP candidates which have views in opposition to the AIP platform, then he doesn’t deserve the AIP’s consideration, IMO.

  18. NewFederalist July 12, 2013

But Jill… we already KNEW that! 😉

  19. Jill Pyeatt July 12, 2013

    MS @ 15: OMG–Romney is a BASTARD, then??

  20. wolfefan July 12, 2013

Hi Mark – I guess I am missing something. Why would Todd Palin not support Santorum or Romney because their fathers were not born in the US?

  21. Mark Seidenberg July 12, 2013

    Cody Quirk

Todd Palin read and liked the AIP Platform.

  22. Mark Seidenberg July 12, 2013

    Thomas Knapp

Take the issue of marriage between one man and one woman. Polygamists, same-sex, are all in the
same boat. These are not real marriges.

Issues from polygamist marriages have punitive
fathers. If a marriage is not recognized in Mexico
it would not be recognized in the United States
if a purported wedding took place in Mexico.
United States has treaty obligations not to recognized bogus weddings in Mexico.

  23. Cody Quirk July 12, 2013

He still is too Pro-GOP, Mark.

  24. Thomas L. Knapp July 12, 2013

    RC@12,

“it’s news to me that George Romney wasn’t a natural born citizen.”

George Romney was born in Mexico to expatriate Mormon polygamists.

No comment on what that might have to do with whether or not he was a “natural-born citizen.” His son certainly is, having been born in Detroit.

  25. Robert Capozzi July 12, 2013

MS, I’m sorry, since when is a parent’s citizenship an issue for a prez candidate.

And it’s news to me that George Romney wasn’t a natural born citizen. Cite?

  26. Mark Seidenberg July 12, 2013

    Cody Quirk

Back in 2012, Todd Palin was trying to change
the outcome of the New Hampshire primary
within the Republican Party. He was anti-
Romney (who’s father was a citizen of Mexico
    at his birth).

Todd Palin also did not want to help Dr. Paul
either. Santorum father was not a United States
    Citizen at his birth.

Therefore, Todd Palin was dealing with a very
limited field of choices at the time.

In 2006 I showed Todd Palin the American Independent Party platform. He read it and told
me he agreed with it. Mr. Parnell (current Governor of Alaska) was at that meeting in
Anchorage, Alaska. Governor Parnell would also
make a good candidate for POTUS in 2016.

  27. Mark Seidenberg July 12, 2013

    Jill Pyeatt

Todd Palin was on the AIP POTUS list to CA
Secretary of State Debra Bowen in 2012.

  28. Mark Seidenberg July 12, 2013

    Jill Pyeatt

Todd Palin was on the AIP POTUS list to CA
Secretary of State Debra Bowen in 2012.

  29. Jill Pyeatt July 12, 2013

I assume, Mark, you mean that Todd Palin would be the Candidate for the American Independent Party?

  30. Cody Quirk July 12, 2013

Todd supported Newt Gingrich for President last year, Mark.

  31. William Saturn July 11, 2013

    Mark,

Does Todd Palin have any interest in running?

  32. Mark Seidenberg July 11, 2013

I am a friend of the Palins. I am not in agreement with all her view, nor is she agreement with all of mine. But I consider her
    and her husband good friends.

I believe now that her husband Todd would make
a good choice for POTUS in 2016.

    Sincerely, Mark Seidenberg, Vice Chairman,
    American Independent Party of California

  33. NewFederalist July 11, 2013

Alaska? Does she even live in Alaska anymore? I am not sure what state she would even try to run for office in but I don’t think it’s Alaska. After resigning as governor I think she is toast up there.

  34. johnO July 11, 2013

If she lived in New York she could run as Conservative Party of NY. Not sure such a party is in Alaska.

  35. Jill Pyeatt July 11, 2013

I really believe this woman’s 15 minutes of fame are over with.

  36. NewFederalist July 11, 2013

She should run on the “Logic Is Too Damn Overrated” party!
