Opposition News: DC Libertarians Run Large Candidate Slate for 2014 Election

If our nation’s capitol is any indication, the Libertarian Party is gearing up for one heck of a 2014 election run. In Washington DC, seven LP candidates have filed for the election and anticipate appearing on the April and November Election ballots. The District of Columbia isn’t exactly a stronghold for libertarian views and the LP’s slate hopes to do better than the party did here in 2012.

Two years ago, the Libertarian Party’s Presidential candidate – Gary Johnson – finished fourth out of a field of four candidates in Washington DC. Illustrating that the city isn’t just figuratively ‘behind enemy lines,’ but literally, Wikipedia shows Johnson only received 2,083 votes in our nation’s capitol, or 0.7%. Nationally, Johnson did much better, receiving slightly over 1% of the vote.

Meet the LP’s 2014 Washington DC candidates

You know you’re doing something right when you’re an opposition party candidate for office and the local CBS News affiliate actually has you and the rest of your party’s fellow candidates included on their website. Prepare to be shocked, because that’s not all. The online ‘CBS Election Guide’ even includes links and contact information for the Libertarian Party’s candidates. They’re consistently listed near the bottom of each race, but who’s complaining.

According to the Washington DC Board of Elections, there are a number of local offices up for election this year including US Senate, US House, US House Delegate, Attorney General, Mayor, and City Council. The Libertarian Party is running seven (7) candidates for those offices. None of the LP hopefuls has an opponent in the April Primary. So each is already setting their sites on their November General Election opponents.
