Libertarian Party: Executive Committee Meeting 2/28/16

Libertarian PartyThe notice of meeting sent out yesterday indicated: “There will be an Executive Committee teleconference on Sunday, February 28 on the subject of potentially signing onto an amicus brief in the U.S. v. Houston case previously mentioned by our Chair.”

This call appears to be referencing a potential Supreme Court appeal of the case found here out of the 6th Circuit touching upon issues of violations of the 4th Amendment and cameras. There was mention that a copy of the brief (or potential brief) was previously circulated amongst the LNC but this author cannot find this in the LNC records. It has been requested and will be added to this article once obtained. Chair Sarwark spoke about the potential for the Libertarian Party signed unto to this brief and stated that there were be no costs or legal risk to the Party in doing so, and further we would be the only political party joining and such would provide a certain distinction. Bob Barr, FreedomWorks, Electronic Frontier Foundation are also considering joining in this brief. Secretary Mattson inquired about any “time sink” this may cause to the Party, and Chair Sarwark stated that there might be time expended if additional briefs are requested in the process, and then such would not be obligatory. A Motion to join in as Amicus was passed without objection.

Edit to add: Inquiry was made, and this author was informed that the prior communication from the Chair referenced above is not public as it was a legal-related communication and confidential.
