2024 Libertarian Convention Delegates Appeal Libertarian National Committee Decision to Suspend Party Secretary

One hundred delegates from the Libertarian Party’s 2024 National Convention have filed an appeal with the party’s Judicial Committee, seeking to void a decision by the National Committee to suspend its secretary, a move they claim violates party bylaws.

The appeal was filed on Wednesday by party member Dr. George Phillies, who published its full text on Third Party Watch. It includes the names of 100 delegates to the 2024 Libertarian National Convention—including some former national party officers—and centers on an investigation into the conduct of LNC Secretary Caryn Ann Harlos, arguing that actions taken against her during the LNC’s October 6 special meeting contradict party bylaws, particularly those provisions mandating support for its presidential ticket.

A primary focus of the appeal is an alleged order from LNC Chair Angela McArdle directing Harlos not to submit the nomination paperwork needed to place the party’s presidential ticket on the Colorado ballot, an instruction the signatories argue conflicts with Article 14 of the party bylaws. This article, the appeal states, requires the LNC to “respect the vote of the delegates” and provide “full support” for its presidential and vice presidential nominees. It further argues that Harlos proceeded with the paperwork submission, believing it to be part of her bylaw-assigned duties as Secretary.

“An attempt by a state party affiliate or National Committee officer to delay or interfere in submission of the certificate of nomination to the Colorado Secretary of State would be in direct violation of the Libertarian Party Bylaws. Punishing a National Committee member for executing duties required by the Bylaws of the Libertarian Party is contrary to those bylaws, therefore all eight motions that were passed based on that conduct must be voided,” the appeal reads.

Additionally, the appeal questions the legitimacy of the LNC’s investigatory committee’s findings, citing secrecy surrounding a 31-page report used to support charges against Harlos. The signatories argue that the report was not publicly released and that withholding such information from party members undermines transparency and due process.

Noting that the Judicial Committee has the authority to void LNC decisions if they are found to contravene party bylaws, the signatories request that the Judicial Committee overturn the motions related to Harlos, restore her duties as secretary, and insert a formal statement in the party records documenting the voided decisions.

As of Thursday afternoon, there is no mention of the appeal on the LNC’s public business list; however, McArdle has posted a Zoom link for a trial related to the suspension of Harlos scheduled for next month.

One of the main problems in this case is that, by the time the appeal was heard, all the motions that they wanted voided had been completely carried out. The case was moot by the time it got to the JC.

Further, the LNC is given the duty to remove officers and the convention determined that a trial was needed, so those matters should be settled.

Harlos deserves the suspension and should be removed.

I commend Dr. George Phillies for his interest and the time, effort and resources he has expended in researching, preparing and filing this appeal.

No surprise the fake libertarians are supporting Harlos. She is a grifter- playing whatever side is most receptive to her at a given moment.

Like the secretary’s own conspiring with notoriously corrupt* Colorado SoS Jena Griswold to illegally nominate a different LP presidential ticket than directed by the LPCO’s board? Nice double standard there, “Libertarians” for child abuse and covid fascism. I would have hoped for more integrity and discernment from a fellow physicist.

Do it, Seebeck. Destroy what little remains of the LP by forcing a stand-off between the national and judicial committees to cover for your criminal buddy. I dare you. U+1F60F
