U.S. Pirate Party Chair to Seek Reelection at Upcoming Convention

Captain Drew Bingaman of the United States Pirate Party announced this month that he will fun for another term. Under Pirate National Committee bylaws, the responsibilities of the captain are equivalent to those of a party chair in other political organizations.

The party confirmed May 13 that Bingaman would accept renomination at its Annual Meeting, scheduled as part of the 2025 Pirate National Conference taking place in San Francisco later this year. Bingaman has served in the role since 2023, when he was elevated from his vice chair position to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Anthony Jay. Bingaman first stated his intention to run again during the Pirate National Committee’s May 11 meeting.

While Bingaman has been officially named by the party as an incumbent candidate, other members may still run for the captain position. Under national bylaws, all officer elections, including that of captain, are held once per year during the Annual Meeting. Any member of the public who provides their name, address, phone number, and email address is considered eligible to vote. The party uses the Schulze Method in conjunction with a silent ballot to conduct officer elections.

Additional updates included the date of the Massachusetts Pirate Party’s Spring Conference, which will take place on June 15 in Somerville, and a renewed call for volunteers in West Virginia, where the state party is looking to expand. The captain of the Illinois Pirate Party also spoke at the No Kings rally organized by the 50501 Movement over the weekend.
