Libertarian National Convention Organizers Assembling 2026 Teller Team

The Libertarian National Committee has shared a request from Mike Seebeck, the party’s head teller for the 2026 convention, seeking volunteers to serve as tellers. The team is responsible for tabulating votes and handling convention paperwork and other election-related documents.

In a December 17 email shared on the LNC’s public Business List, Seebeck said he is seeking about 14 to 16 volunteers for the teller team ahead of the 2026 convention, which is scheduled to take place next May in Grand Rapids, Michigan. According to Seebeck, the team’s responsibilities include handling delegation packets and nomination paperwork, tallying delegation vote totals, and counting floor votes among other things.

Tellers are also responsible for managing the tabulation of platform tokens used under convention rules to consider changes to the party platform. Under the rules, each delegate is issued a set number of tokens that can be marked to recommend deletion of specific platform planks. Tokens are tabulated beforehand, and any plank that receives sufficient support is brought before the delegates for a vote. Deletion typically requires a majority of delegates, while additions or other amendments to the platform require a two-thirds majority.

“The Tellers are the major part of backbone of every national convention, because the work we do makes sure the convention business runs as smoothly and as cleanly as possible,” Seebeck’s email reads. “That means that every election is efficient yet accurate and beyond scrutiny, every counted floor vote is counted correctly, and auxiliary paperwork is handled properly.”

Seebeck added that the team’s mission is to “run the cleanest elections of any political organization in the country,” and while he does not expect the 2026 convention to be as intense as the 2024 event, which saw some positions undergo multiple rounds of voting into the evening, he wants the team prepared.

For Libertarians interested in joining the teller team, Seebeck said to contact him directly, with his information included in the email. He said training will be provided closer to the convention date, and volunteers will need to provide their own laptops, preferably running Windows. While serving as a national delegate is not required, it is recommended.

Dead serious about this, everyone. Right now I’m up to my eyeballs in 30,000 ballot labels (literally!) and things are progressing on materials prep, but it comes down to people, and I need that help!
