The Communist Party USA has announced plans to hold a national “all-party” political action conference later this spring, calling on activists and coalition partners to organize ahead of the 2026 general election.
In a recent statement, the party’s Political Action Commission said the conference is scheduled for May 23 starting at noon ET. The theme will be “2026 elections — Repel Fascism and Build for the Future” with the event intended to function as a coordinated push to mobilize supporters, build coalitions, and lay the groundwork for electoral activity in the months leading up to November.
“The ability to organize broadly and deeply in solidarity will determine the outcome of this struggle,” the statement reads.
The party castigates President Donald Trump and his supporters for attempting to “steal” the upcoming elections through direct threats from immigration enforcement officials and voter restrictions. It says a new approach to electoral organizing and collective action would be required to successfully oppose allies of the administration, and that it has a “special role” to play in doing so.
While the statement does not detail other participating groups or specific conference agenda items, it points to electoral organizing efforts such as door-to-door outreach as a central tool in mobilizing, describing it as a way to develop local party clubs, build local relationships, and engage voters. It also stresses working alongside unions and advocacy groups across issues such as immigration, housing, healthcare, and civil rights.
“The skills we can gain include speaking to a variety of people and understanding their needs and issues, deepening our knowledge of our local conditions, and learning the nuts and bolts of political campaigns,” the party stated.
The event will be held online with in-person watch gatherings, followed by discussions to produce a unified plan of action through to the general election. The party said it also plans to identify key races on the ballot in advance and direct its organizing efforts accordingly, with materials from the conference to be distributed afterward.
The statement also links the conference to the party’s broader organizing efforts, presenting it as part of its push to launch “broad people’s movements” and expand the party itself, including by running Communist Party candidates to meet its ends.
“We in the Communist Party must make sure that what is possible happens.”
