Write-in candidate for Maine Senate seat challenges opponents to a debate

“It is time for candidates to debate the most pressing issues affecting this nation and not focus on ‘Swift Boat’ propoganda,” says Herbert Hoffman, independent candidate for US Senate. The statement comes in response to a series of attack ads on the incumbent, Susan Collins, and her Democratic challenger, Tom Allen.

In addition to this condemnation of negativity, Hoffman challenges his opponents to a debate. He says,

Let the three of us engage in debating:Â how to get out of the illegal and immoral occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan; how to provide affordable health care for all Americans; how to hold the Bush administration accountable for the many significant Constitutional infractions in order that they may not be repeated and extended by future administrations. Â These are pressing issues facing the Maine electorate. Â These are the issues on which there is not agreement among the three candidates for Senate.

Unfortunately, Hoffman will not be on the ballot in November due to a challenge from the Democrats which is explained in this video. Hoffman is continuing his campaign as a write-in candidate.
