For the second time this month, the Libertarian Party of Georgia has spoken out against Gwinnett’s government.
This time, the party had issues with the county’s trash plan, a program that was thrown out by a judge the same day the party issued a press release.
In a press release, party officials said the county’s garbage collection plan, which divided the county into districts and forced companies to compete for contracts in a each, violated the party’s cornerstone principle of free enterprise and non-intervention by government in a free market.
Instead of the government choosing vendors, party officials said residents should be allowed to choose their trash collector, and companies should be allowed to provide the service without government interference.
Georgia party chairman Daniel Adams said free market competition is the best way to get a better quality service at a lower price.
“We believe the role of government is limited to projects and services that cannot be provided by private enterprise,” Adams said. “We oppose government policies that restrict choice and threaten to put business owners out of business. As a matter of fact, what the Gwinnett County government has done is just flat out un-American.”
The party’s platform says the proper role of government is to protect property rights, adjudicate disputes and provide a legal framework in which voluntary trade is protected. The party also advocates the termination of “government-created monopolies and franchise privileges,” such as electricity or garbage collection.
Earlier this month, the party condemned the county police department for a botched raid, where the wrong door was knocked down when police executed a no-knock warrant.
Each member of Gwinnett’s elected Board of Commissioners is Republican.

I would like to have a list of the commissioners who voted for the Government take over of our trash service so I & my family can vote them out of office. I don’t want my trash service on my property tax bill just like I don’t want any of my other services, such as lights, gas or water put on my property tax. It is all just one big goverment take over by Charles Banister, who shouldn’t be in office in the first place. I want to vote these people out & this services put back in the peoples hands. PLEASE LIST THESE PEOPLE SO WE ALL WILL KNOW WHO THEY ARE.
Freedom is under attack, And Freedom is loosing. We need a list of all those in the commision that voted for this new Government take over of our trash service, so We the people can VOTE THEM OUT !
Atleast someone s paying attention. It just proves as a solid example that voter power = media power
