Ralph Nader: a glimpse into the online campaign

From 2008 campaign staffer Christina Qura:

I just finished working on Ralph Nader’s presidential campaign- actually in his office in DC where everyone calls him “Ralph” and walks around with no shoes on. My job was of “campus coordinator” and one of my duties was being “Ralph Nader” on Facebook- the popular social networking site. Isn’t it funny how ‘social networking’ is so big on the internet now and that’s what people were doing on the BB years ago? Anyway, I would get to decide which icon Facebook Ralph Nader was displaying and who his friends were and which youtube videos to post- things like that. I also got to respond to a lot of messages from supporters (and people who hated him… plenty of those….. lots of people forgetting about silly things like seatbelts and airbags) and respond to them all as Ralph Nader. People actually thought it was Ralph Nader, too. It reminded me of the good ol’ days back on the BB when I used to register 100 names and impersonate celebrities and things and then you would ban me. This time I was actually getting paychecks to do it. And the paychecks were all from public donations. Isn’t that glorious?

So, they should be available as optional equipment if people want them, not mandatory. Some people die *because* of them, too. But even if that were not the case, how safe or unsafe people want to be should be up to them, not anyone else.

Yeah I deal with boaters who don’t have them as “optional” equipment….. Every year we get some real “face changers” from groundings and folks plowing into their windshields at ONLY 30 MPH.

Not everyone likes them, and they should not be mandatory.

    Yeah, damn those lethal Seatbelts.

One of those horrid devices had me hanging upside down for 10 minutes instead of being thrown through a windshield and smashed to pieces against a rock some years ago.

Had it not been for that seatbelt, I probably wouldn’t have had a small case of whiplash for 2 days. For heaven’s sake, who’s idea were they anyway?

I’m not a christian, so why would I care about xtian cult holidays?

Paulie, you gloat about being unemployed. You’re a moron lol

As far as I’m concerned, Paulie is a crypto-socialist.

I didn’t put this site together.

GE did, and later Austin and Trent.

I have, however, written more articles than any other IPR author, especially lately. I’m actually not intending to filibuster – I wish other IPR writers would post more, and have told them so, but I understand that people are busy.

I, on the other hand, am unemployed at the moment, so I have plenty of time, and am severely addicted to this website.

LJ is a hateful little troll, and doesn’t merit a response.

CT, thanks for the moral support.

That was un-Christian Joseph. Paulie has put this wonderful site together and you try to make him even more depressed on Christmas when he says he is already depressed. How uncollegial.

Awesome! Definitely need that, for sure.

I’m finally off antibiotics, so I think I’ll start getting hammered.

The neighbors are having a party tonight. Maybe I’ll go and try to nail something.

This time of year often makes me depressed, but a combination of circumstances is making it especially bad this year.

Oh, G.E., you are really such a pompous pseudo-intellectual. You and your grinchy quackery. Always good for a chuckle, though; got to give you that!

I’m here to spread Christmas cheer.

“Maybe those lethal devices and the coercive manner in which they were forced on the public ARE THE REASONS they hate him, dumbass.”

As far as I know, no one has ever observed Ralph Nader with a sexual or romantic partner, whether straight or gay. During the 1960s, I think it was, GM famously tried to get him laid, and failed.

Wow. She got paid to be on facebook all day? And that’s all she did?

I don’t think so…She says “one of my duties was being “Ralph Nader” on Facebook” but does not mention the others.

I’ve been in Nader’s DC office, back in ’04, and I never noticed the “no shoes” thing.
