The Daily News of Richmond, Missouri covers the Modern Whig Party:
If Abraham Lincoln were alive today he might find some familiar and welcome company in Missouri.
The “Modern Whig” Party has made a revival, and on Lincoln’s 200th birthday party members are trying to make some noise politically much like Lincoln did in his career.Lincoln was originally a member of the Whig Party before converting over to the Republican Party. The Party was most active from 1833 to 1856.
Modern Whig Party Southeast Coordinator Rhonda Carsten said she joined the group last year while promoting the Pickens Plan. She said the party endorsed the plan and she decided to join.
She said Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who saw a need for a third party formed the party.
“This whole party was the brain child of active duty servicemen and non active that had a lot of time overseas to sit and talk about what they liked and didn’t like about American politics,” she said. “They founded this party.”
The Chairman of the Missouri Party, George Mills is an aviator in the Missouri Army National Guard and also a veteran of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
Carsten said the party is described as fiscally conservative but socially liberal. She also said a strong national defense system is also a platform.

Oh, and as a side note, we just installed our new forums over there. Feel free to sign on up if you ever, you know, happen to feel the urge.
Ha, thanks HS, I appreciate it. That’s the whole goal of the site – make people laugh, then sprinkle in the useful information. I wanted to figure out a way to reach libertarian thoughts out to the masses that generally don’t get geeky for politics, and this approach makes the most sense.
BTW, Joe… I really like your Melting Pot Project. Anything that can make me laugh while remaining informative and evenhanded is a gem in my book 🙂
Thanks Ross for the coverage!
The Missouri Chapter is conducting a statewide meeting on Saturday in Jefferson City. I believe some media outlets are planning on attending that event as we expect a fairly large turnout. Other states have already been meeting in person, and the second national/state online meeting was conducted last night and sounds to have been very productive.
Besides Huffington Post and stints on Daily Kos, there seems to be a concerted effort by some members of this movement on the more conservative Little Green Footballs that has been widely successful.
The party continues to quietly build its brand, although we have a painfully long way to go.
Not only that, but even the Huffington Post recently published a column calling for the return of the Whigs. That story, along with more about replacing the GOP, can be found right here.
