One wonders whether Root may use it as a way to prepare a bid as GOP senate candidate against Harry Reid in Nevada?

There are many radio shows indeed. Fred Thompson also has his own show. One wonders what for WAR’s show will be: rantings about Obama and making it personal, or real intellectual discussion with different people about promoting libertarianism and critical discussion with critics and how to grow? My guess is it is going to be the first one, without much debt. Perhaps citing passages from his book. BTW: Root is the last one to write about conscious…philosophically it is a very difficult concept to write about and define and Root is most definitely NOT qualified to write anything about it.

    Susan @19:

A singing housefly would not advocate for having the US government assist Israel in attacking Iran!

Wouldn’t that depend on the song? 🙂

    John C,

Perhaps not. But the top 100 talk radio show hosts are probably all talking to over 100,000 listeners a piece.

There are a lot of people who have talk shows in major markets and no one knows who they are outside a small niche in those markets. I doubt most people/voters have heard of 98 of the top 100 Talk Radio hosts in the country.

A singing housefly would be featured on all sorts of shows.

    @15
“A singing housefly would be getting much more media than most LP candidates.”
Uhh, yeah it would! A singing housefly would be frickin amazing!

@10 “I think we need more information on this.”

I believe this assessment is correct.

“it’s obvious he’s getting much more media than most LP candidates.”

That’s easy to define. Making sure government does no more than protect the rich and powerful who have from the poor and powerless who have not.

There are plenty of crazy views and labels running around out there already. If you assume most of what he says is non-libertarian but even 5% really hits it home then that’s a larger spread than the % votes from the election. =p Not too bad for the media!

Having a libertarian viewpoint on a radio show would be good. Having racist, xenophobic, sexist, and authoritarian views masquerading as libertarian views would not.

Whether you like or dislike Root, I think that having another libertarian biased media program is a great thing.

There are many niches in the media out there that need to be filled by libertarian minded folks (inflammatory, centrist, reporting, strategist, tv/newspaper/radio personality, etc etc etc)

Those markets have some awfully tiny stations as well. I know he certainly won’t be on KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles, which pretty much rules the talk radio roost in our nation’s largest media market, unless he gets some obscure weekend slot. The overnight is currently held by Coast To Coast with George Noory. The other large talk radio station, 97.1 FM, recently changed formats and only plays music, much to my dismay. Maybe he is pre-recording his shows and marketing them at these “pay to play” radio stations.

As far as Root himself: I’m still kinda torn on the guy. I appreciate him going out and getting media, but I am not a fan of his “Republican lite” brand of Libertarianism. I do think he has gotten better though…but not enough. As far as people thinking he is some sort of “used car salesman”, well so what? He’s not the first LP candidate to give off that vibe (Michael Emerling-Cloud, anyone?) and frankly, I see quite a bit of that in the LP from people who somehow think they are great at outreach.

I will save my final judgement until later.

I think we need more information on this.

I’m pretty sure the answer to all inquiries to Root about his politics would be that HE is the “face of the Libertarian Party”. Nothing more need be said.

  17. Trent Hill May 29, 2009

Jerry Doyle IS a big show, though. Root makes many claims, some believable–some not–but it’s obvious he’s getting much more media than most LP candidates.

Rocky, the email was mostly about something else – in fact, I was asking for a position statement on Afghanistan and torture, which I didn’t get. The remark about the radio show was part of the non-answer, or perhaps Wayne thought it was an answer. I may share it after he sends clarification.

Wayne also mentioned that he was hosting a ‘top ten’ show today, which evidently is the Jerry Doyle Show. I couldn’t find that ranked anything higher than 15ish, so I am a bit skeptical of Wayne’s other claims.

  19. Rocky Eades May 29, 2009

Can the entire email be shared? That should be rich!

  20. Nexus May 29, 2009

I should have seen this one coming.

Gene, I don’t know. Sorry. Also, the cities given are an extrapolation of Wayne’s remark that he would be on in the three largest cities in the US.

  22. Gene Trosper May 29, 2009

    What stations?

  23. NewFederalist May 29, 2009

Oh, oh… this can’t be good.
