Dave Brady has resigned his positions as State Chair of the Libertarian Party of Illinois and Chair of Libertarian Party of McHenry County in order to take a position with McHenry County government. He is also halting his challenge to Bob Sullentrup for Libertarian National Committee Secretary.
In a note posted to his Facebook page, Dave explains his decision:
Hi Everyone,
As most everyone has heard this week, unemployment has reached the 9% mark and signs of it slowing is unlikely. Also, as some may know after 18 months of being unemployed and struggling with an occasional freelance AV job I have secured a job as Electronic Recording Specialist for McHenry County (IL). One unfortunate part of this position is that I am required to resign as State Chair of the Libertarian Party of Illinois as well as Chair of Libertarian Party of McHenry County. So to ensure there is no misunderstanding of the reasoning for my resignation from these positions, I have copied the text of the regulation below:
J. Political Activities
Court reporting services employees, shall not:
1. Become a candidate for nomination, or election to, or accept appointment to any public office;
2. Hold any office in, or solicit funds for any political organization; or
3. Publically endorse, publically oppose, or solicit funds for candidates for public office.
Except as indicated below, any employee who engages in any of the above activities shall be deemed to have vacated his or her position and shall be discharged.
As you see from the above text there is no room for exception. Reading the text gives guidance as to what activities I may or may not participate in the future. It does not require me to give up my political affiliation with the LPI or LNC.
This regulation also prevents me from continuing my run for Libertarian National Committee Secretary so I am dropping out of that race as well.
In a small humorous side note; one former presidential candidate (R) can breath a sigh of relief now. I can no longer be an outspoken critique of Ron Paul.

It’s kind of a pity that he had to resign.
How about an actual, literal chair, if Kampia does not have time?
I mean a piece of furniture. Otherwise: do an OPH/outreach table of some sort outside UDC one day and try to find a young, DC-based (not just for college of capitol hill/K street jobs) young person or several – if possible, black, just because of the racial politics of the city. Then turn it over to them. I can consult on the phone if anyone wants.
Although I sympathize with the employment situation, it seems AV employment outside of the government would be preferable.
It’s recognized in the fact that LPI files FEC reports every quarter and that they do receive income (how much I don’t know). I would gather that Dave is more or less saving his hide if the regulations imposed by that county government can be liberally interpreted.
too bad Ray and Beth Duensing want to maintain their address in NV , they actually live in Illinois and both are super-duper activists .
I wasn’t aware that the LP of Illinois was even recognized in that state. If the state doesn’t recognize the party, how can they then discharge somebody for being involved in said party?
PEACE
Maybe this might end the shit talking that has come out of Dave and his wife’s mouth about longtime libertarian activists whom neither one has ever met before. Time for some real leadership at LPI, unfortunately people are abandoning their positions on the Executive Board rather quickly!
Dave’s a good man. I’m sorry to see he’ll no longer be in leadership positions within our party.
electronic recording specialist?
MMmmm , I hope it dosnt include surveillance recording of any kind
I love it,
when things get tough Libertarins turn to the state to save their butts.
